Job Description:

The University at Albany (SUNY) Theatre Program seeks a Technical Director/Production Manager, to begin in the Spring semester of 2023. This is a one-semester appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a total of two years, contingent on funding.

Responsibilities: 

  • To provide Technical Direction and Production Management for the Theatre Program.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in theatre technology, or related areas of expertise.
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of our production season, including the scope of each production, and organizing production meetings.
  • Coordinate the schedule of all Theatre Program facility use within the Performing Arts Center.
  • Meet the design specifications and construction schedules within budget limits.
  • Provide technical design and working drawings for the Scene Shop.
  • Directly oversee the staff Scene Shop Supervisor and manage student crews.
  • Coordinate with other production departments in scheduling all production activities.
  • Maintain and safeguard shop infrastructure, inventory, and equipment 
  • Determine material and equipment purchases for productions and stock
  • Enforce and maintain workplace health and safety practices
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct all Technical Rehearsals.
  • Mentor students in our Design/Tech Minor.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and program-related activities. 


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MFA in Technical Director required.
  • Positive collaboration skills, in working with faculty members and students. 
  • Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population. 

Preferred Qualifications:

An ideal candidate has proficiency and experience in the following:

  • Traditional Theatre Scenic Construction
  • Welding
  • Drafting (AutoCAD or Vectorworks)
  • Technical Supervision
  • Rigging
  • Fabrication
  • Project Planning Budget Planning, Tracking, and Estimation
  • Positive Collaborative Skills

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Visiting Assistant Professor (10 months)
