Job Description:
Position Description
The department of Community Planning and Economic Development currently has one (1) full-time Summer Internship opportunity, in the area of Planning.

Schedule: The hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Pay: Anticipated hourly rate of $17.05 depending on qualifications. A resume and cover letter are required with your application.

Work Location: This position currently works on-site only.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Planning Division in a variety of duties such as:
Collecting and preparing data for various planning projects
Researching best practices for land use regulations
Conducting field work, collects parcel data and searches land records
Prepares maps and planning reports of limited or variable complexity
Producing sketches and renderings of limited or variable complexity
Assisting planning staff at community meetings
Conducting basic office functions as needed, such as data entry or file management.
Additional project duties assigned if needed.


Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Current graduate students, or recent graduates within a year of this announcement, with an educational focus in Building or Housing Inspections, Urban Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Housing Program, Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture or other related fields.

Minimum Experience: No experience required.

Licenses/Certifications: None

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Strong written and oral communication skills
Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Hmong, Vietnamese and/or Lao highly desired.
Strong research and analytical skills
Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
Motivated self-starter able to work independently
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Flexibility and desire to work on varying planning projects
