This position will serve as a Community Aquaculture Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County and will be responsible for developing, planning, implementing and evaluating Shellfish Restoration programming and activities. This position will be responsible for representing Cornell Cooperative Extension in the community through participation in tabling events and serving as a subject matter expert when providing technical assistance to community groups, and other public organizations. The Educator will develop and implement community oyster gardening programs and will utilize Cornell University resources to provide technical assistance on aquaculture projects throughout Nassau County. The Educator will work with assigned team members to deliver innovative programs and demonstrations to youth groups, adult programs, and professional organizations and plan and coordinate special events and activities. This position will train volunteers on shellfish restoration efforts and will deliver program content through face-to-face instruction, virtual workshops and webinars, video and audio demonstration, and other online learning platforms, such as the Cornell Distance Learning Center (Moodle). This position will also coordinate assigned administrative aspects of the Program and will assist the Team Leader with marketing efforts for programming. The Community Aquaculture Educator will also be responsible for identifying and assessing educational program needs, developing program goals and objectives, and the evaluation of all program offerings. Required Qualifications: Masters Degree. Experience relevant to the role of the position. Valid New York State Drivers License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. Coursework or experience in aquaculture restoration and teaching to youth and adult audiences. Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English. Ability to present effective educational lessons to target audiences and work with audiences of all ages. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, teach, and evaluate educational programs. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners. Basic computer and word processing skills. Physical ability to demonstrate aquaculture education techniques, including: lifting shellfish cages (up to 50 lbs), bending and squatting, and working on floating docks. Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.). Ability to utilize program resources from the organization and the community. Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor. Lifeguard Certification. POSITION DETAILS: This is an exempt, full-time position, 100% FTE. The annual salary for this position is $62,400.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance and NYS retirement.
