Position Description
The Anoka County Highway mission is the Anoka County Highway Department, it is our vision to enhance and protect life by providing safe roads and eliminating traffic congestion. The department has an immediate opening for Engineering Technician III who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include conducting testing and inspections of grading, paving, curb, concrete, and materials to support highway construction and improvement projects and ensure contract compliance.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-siteposition.
Pay & Benefits

Salary: $60,819 to $72,966 ($29.24 to $35.08 per hour).

2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32. $60,819 to $85,113 ($29.24 to $40.92 per hour).

24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays.

Work Location
This position will work at the Anoka County Highway Building, located at 1440 Bunker Lake Blvd NW, Andover MN 55304.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all-inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of the primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Engineering Technician III.

Conduct testing and inspections of grading, paving, curb, concrete, and materials to support highway construction and improvement projects and ensure contract compliance.

Maintain record keeping and documentation system for construction projects including pay quantities and materials, for state and federal guidelines.

Oversee the daily activities of field crews and contractors on site to ensure each phase meets the standards and specification requirements.

Conduct topographical construction surveying, including setting control, collecting data, and construction staking. Collect field information using complex survey instruments.

Record necessary documentation such as highway alignments, vertical profiles, design of storm sewer systems, and calculations of material quantities.

Utilize design information for survey notes to construct the project and perform accurate staking.

Compute quantities and check computations performed by others.

Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 4 years of job-related experience.

In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Successfully pass driver's license background check.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Comprehensive knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and drafting.

Knowledge of all design standards for construction, survey, and inspection of county roads and county state aid highways.

Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques involved in the design, construction, and proper maintenance of county highways and bridges.

Strong knowledge of surveying principles and procedures.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Standard office environment, various county work sites both indoor and outdoor, including unfinished structures, construction sites, rough terrain, and changing weather conditions depending on assignment.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.

Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.

Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties.

Cognitive abilities required include problem-solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills.

Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.

Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment.

Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.

Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to various inspection and surveying equipment depending on assignment.

Inspection and surveying equipment may include but is not limited to digital camera, tape measure, hammer, chisels, boom truck and other machinery, electronic drafting equipment, material testing equipment, power and hand tools, and personal protective equipment.

Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.

Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, prolonged vibration from machinery, and other hazards is possible while performing essential duties.
