JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary The Red Wing Fire Department is seeking
qualified applicants for Paid-On-Call Firefighters to join the
department. This position performs emergency work in the protection of
life and property from fire and other hazards, the operation of the Fire
Department vehicles, the treatment of emergency medical problems and
emergency rescue, and other duties as may be assigned. On an on-call
basis, performs emergency work in the protection of life and property
from fire and other hazards and the operation of Fire Department and
ambulance vehicles. The hours expectations mandated annually for this
position are 60 hours of training (72 hours offered), responding to 33%
of paged calls and may require a minimum of 96 hours of station time up
(8 hours/month) to a maximum of 288 hours (24 hours/month). Essential
Job Functions Responds to fire, medical or other emergencies as
required. Drives or operates a variety of fire department vehicles and
equipment; may be required to perform as pump operator; Extricates
victims of entrapment; performs high angle, water, confined space
rescues and removal of persons from hazardous materials incidents;
Responds to fires and emergency calls; connects and handles hose lines
and nozzles; places or hoists ladders; turns water on or off; uses axes,
bars, or hooks as appropriate; and utilizes chemical extinguishers or
hoses to extinguish a fire; Ventilates burning buildings by opening or
breaking doors or windows or cutting holes through walls or floors; and
forces entry by breaking glass, springing or forcing doors, windows or
gates, cutting locks, bars, or wire grating, or breaking walls;
Participates in initial arson investigation by preserving evidence and
noting the location and condition of related objects upon entry into a
burning building; provides oral or written summaries of facts to the
Fire Captain; Assists in salvage work after a fire has been
extinguished; Participates in pre-fire and post fire sessions with
officers and other firefighters; Performs a variety of administrative
duties at the fire station. Performs routine station duties as directed
to maintain the cleanliness, readiness, and appearance of apparatus,
equipment, station and grounds. Maintains medical and fire service
records as requested or required by department policy. Assists with fire
prevention and education including speaking at schools, conducting tours
of the fire station Tours new businesses and structures to familiarize
self with the location of exits, fire doors, stairs, hazardous
materials, water shutoffs, alarm panels, etc.; may suggest changes to
eliminate fire hazards. Assists in the repair or maintenance of fire
apparatus, when requested. Attends and participates in departmental
training drills and sessions in all areas of fire service operation as
mandated by National Fire Protection Agency and OSHA. Performs other

live burns will be going on with current POC-Firefighters. \*\*\*\*\*
OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a high school diploma or
equivalent. The ability to obtain Firefighter II and First Responder
certifications. Must possess a valid driver\'s license issued in the
state of residence Physical Must reside and respond to calls with within
20 minutes to Fire Station 1. Physical activities during responses and
training can intermittently require heavy lifting of over 100 pounds.
Make decisions that could have life or death consequences for fire
fighters and civilians under difficult and stressful conditions with
limited information during emergency conditions. May be required to:
face exposure to infectious biological agents such as hepatitis B or HIV
as well as biohazardous materials that require use of proper safety
procedures and resources. E smoke filled environments and a variety of
physical hazards. Witness grotesque sights and smells associated with
major trauma and burn victims. May work in areas where sustained
traumatic or thermal injuries are possible. Wear personal protective
equipment that weighs approximately 50 pounds. Work on slippery,
hazardous surfaces such as on roof tops or from ladders Spends excessive
time outside exposed to the elements; must tolerate extreme fluctuations
in temperature while performing firefighting duties. Maintain personal
safety, while making make critical decisions in a confused, chaotic, and
potentially life-threatening environment throughout the duration of
