Position Title: Teacher on Special Assignment - Literacy Lead Teacher

Assignment:

FTE: 1.0 (190 contract days)

Position Specific Responsibilities:
Collaboration with District Leadership
- Collaborate with district leadership to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to Tier 1 core literacy instruction and interventions;
- Participate in leadership meetings to provide updates on structured literacy initiatives, discuss challenges, and contribute to district-wide planning;
- Collaborates with colleagues within the Teaching and Learning Department in long and short-term visioning and planning;
Coaching, Mentoring, Modeling, and Problem-Solving
- Provide ongoing, on-site coaching and mentoring to teachers, supporting the implementation of structured literacy practices in the classroom;
- Conduct classroom observations, provide constructive feedback, and assist teachers in refining instructional techniques to meet the diverse needs of students;
- Provide opportunities for teachers to observe the modeling of instruction and co-teach in literacy as part of coaching when needed;
- Problem-solve with teachers in making responsive instructional decisions regarding interventions and extensions to meet student needs;
Data Driven Decision Making
- Analyze district literacy assessment data, using findings to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement in core instruction;
- Work closely with teachers, intervention teachers/program facilitators, principal managers, and instructional coaches to analyze school-level data, identifying trends, areas for improvement, and Tier 1 intervention needs;
- Collaborate with the local literacy network, as well as member district literacy leads;
- Collaborate with intervention specialists and other district colleagues to ensure alignment between core curriculum, interventions, and structured literacy initiatives;
Professional Development Coordination and Planning
- Collaborate with the Teaching & Learning team and Literacy Committee to design and implement professional development opportunities for classroom teachers;
- Coordinate with external experts and organizations as needed;
- Collaborates with Teaching and Learning Department colleagues to plan and provide aligned professional development and curriculum selection and implementation;
- Conduct an ongoing needs assessment to inform professional learning needs;
Leadership and Coordination
- Provide strong leadership, guidance, and support to the district literacy team, site-level implementation team;
- Support site literacy teachers by ensuring alignment in supporting core literacy curriculum and instruction;
- Engage and collaborate with the local literacy network;
- Support the implementation of MTSS;
- Coordinate data submission and collection with MDE;
- Complete and annually update the local literacy plan;
- Conduct regular check-ins and observations, and provide feedback to support teachers in their professional growth and effectiveness;
- Facilitates related projects, processes, and committees;
- Present information to administrators and other stakeholders;
- Train staff to utilize district assessment and screening tools.
Training and Experience Requirements:
- Master's degree in Education, Literacy, or related field;
- Licensure from the MN Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board in Elementary Education AND Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Behavior Disorders, Development Disabilities, or Specific Learning Disabilities;
- Minimum of 5 years of successful elementary teaching experience;
- Experience in planning, facilitating, and leading professional development; and
- Experience in coaching and mentoring teachers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training and certification in structured literacy;
- Cognitive Coaching training or equivalent;
- Experience in leadership and/or coaching role.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Strong understanding of literacy assessment tools and data analysis;
- Knowledge of current trends and research in literacy instruction;
- Strong knowledge of Minnesota English-Language Arts Standards;
- Understanding of the district's population of unique learners and appropriate instructional methods;
- Understanding of systems and organizational change, and experience in leading change.

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
