MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
• Must successfully complete and pass applicable pre-employment background check, driving record, physical and drug screening
• Ability to perform the physical requirements and demands of the position


EXPERIENCE

• 2 years or more of relevant work experience in transportation, driving or logistics is preferred
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered adequate

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
• Preference will be given to non-restricted CDL drivers
• Ability to operate large, heavy-duty vehicles
• Ability to drive safely
• Ability to work a consistent work schedule, as punctuality is required
• Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing
• Ability to operate a tablet / basic computer skills

Preferred Skills:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate a truck in accordance within WCS Safety, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and document those checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
• Immediately report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to your Supervisor or Dispatch
• Attend and participate in training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WCS or as directed by your Supervisor
• Communicate customer requests to your Supervisor or Dispatch
• Completely dump all receptacles and leave each customer’s location clean and free of debris
• May also be required to assist in loading and/or unloading contents in/out of the trailer
• Follow all route assignments and complete end-of-day documentation / check out process
• Perform duties as scheduled by your Supervisor or Dispatch and assist other drivers to meet customer needs
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
• Ability to problem solve, prioritize tasks, and manage time well
• Ability to work with and support co-workers and team members
• Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
• Willingness to work extra time and/or do extra tasks on certain days as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THIS POSITION

• Ability to safely lift objects weighing 50 pounds
• Ability to safely push, pull, bend, twist, sit, stand, and frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 100 pounds
• Ability to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.)
• Ability to hear at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with others

Job Description:
Drivers in this position operate heavy-duty trucks with additional lift/loading attachments. Using specialized equipment on their truck, they prepare, load and transport walking floor trailers to and from disposal sites, transfer stations, and recycle facilities. Containers will weigh in excess of 1,000 pounds and, at times, may require maneuvering to pick-up. They then transport the contents to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility when the container has reached the legal load capacity. Safe driving is crucial when traveling and maneuvering the truck in high traffic / congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots around other vehicles and under highlines. A high level of skill especially regarding backing maneuvers is essential to being successful as a semi / tractor-trailer driver.
