A day in the life of a Lead Pharmacy Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to meet the needs of patients and ensure the timely delivery of medications.
2. Accountable for day-to-day activities of the pharmacy technicians in the pharmacy with appropriate oversight of the management team.
3. Manage and monitor inventory of pharmacy products and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage conditions.
4. Supports the drug inventory process including rotation and restocking of drug dispensing areas with drugs and supplies needed to process patient medication orders.
5. Identifies cost savings opportunities throughout the Department and is accountable for managing initiatives toward achieving and sustaining savings.
6. Ensures compliance with and training of technician related Joint Commission Medication Management standards, including medication security, recall management, and expiration tracking.
7. Supports other pharmacy technicians by filling in when needed, providing hands-on training, and coordinating training schedules.
8. Assesses baseline skill level for new technicians and schedules new technicians to attend appropriate training programs applicable for HMH sites.
9. Collaborates with pharmacy leadership to develop and maintain workflow and policies and procedures related to their area of specialization.
10. Trains all new hires on their area of specialization and coordinates with pharmacy leadership to maintain records of training and competency.
11. Collaborates with pharmacy leadership to ensure adequate staffing levels within their specialized area and covers for call-outs when needed.
12. Communicates important information between shifts during the department's shift-to-shift handoffs.
13. Participates in the department's Medication Safety Program discussions when an event occurs within their specialized area.
14. Provides appropriate documentation wherever and whenever required.
15. Performs tasks associated with automated equipment and maintains appropriate records as designated.
16. As required, works alongside the pharmacy technicians in performance of their duties, including, but not limited to:
- Filling daily drug orders accurately and efficiently in a timely manner, under the supervision of a pharmacist,
- Assisting in processing returned drugs and recycle/dispose per procedure,
- Assisting in prepacking frequently ordered medications, label and store, as needed,
- Packaging materials and products
- Obtaining medications from shelving and other medication storage areas in preparation for dispensing,
- Applying labeling to prescriptions and scanning products for accuracy check .
- Alerting pharmacist on duty of any medication/product that is not scanning properly
- Maintaining designated workstation areas and replenishes all stock supplies needed
17. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.
18. Adheres to the standards identified in the Department's Organizational Competencies.
19. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
