Job Description:
HealthPartners is currently hiring for a Research Informatics Programmer Analyst. The analyst will develop core reports, deliverables, systems, and methodologies to provide accurate and actionable information to investigators and research teams. They will serve as project leader on the planning, design, and creation of complex data extracts, analyses, and key recommendations for implementation that will provide investigators with a comprehensive understanding of the data used in the research topic being studied. The analyst will also provide data analysis, interpretation, and consultation to maximize the use of HealthPartners administrative and other essential data (claims, enrollment, pharmacy, registry, financial, dental, EMR, research project subject engagement, abstraction data) in order to support the needs of HealthPartners Institute activities on local and national collaborative studies. The analyst supports national, regional, and local organizations on clinical, health services, and scientific research projects.
The Analyst has a direct impact on the HealthPartners Institute's ability to use information in support of research. In this capacity, the Analyst will support maternal child, chronic disease, dental, COVID-19, mental health, oncology, genetic and other research studies. They will develop distributed programs for multi-site studies that use common data models (Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics OMOP, Health Care Systems Research Network Virtual Data Warehouse, etc.) and will collaborate with teams to verify research projects have access to accurate information. They will explore new data content areas and methodologies for innovative use by research studies.
Required Qualifications:
BA/BS in informatics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, health care management, business, economics, finance, or related field
Four years of experience in health care and/or health research settings working with health care data including clinical/EMR (Epic Clarity) or claims data.
Expertise in SAS and/or R programming languages
Well-developed technical programming knowledge, such as Microsoft SQL Server programming skills
Experience collaborating with other programmer analysts.
Experience in an analytical setting using technical/analytical skills on the extraction, layout, and interpretation of complex data sets.
Experience presenting results verbally and in written form to senior level managers.
Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and to coordinate projects from the concept stage to completion, leading teams representing multiple departments of an organization.
Understanding of relational database design and proficiency of data integration and navigation
Developed consulting skills, strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate technical concepts for non-technical users and to lead teams to effective and actionable decisions.
Ability to produce meaningful tabular and graphical displays of data using Business Intelligence, Microsoft Office, or other software.
Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in informatics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, health care management, business, economics, finance, or other area providing analytical and technical skills.
Experience working with dental data.
Experience working with genetic data.
Good working knowledge with medical terminology, medical coding systems: ICD-10, CPT4, NDC
Business Intelligence (PowerBI) and Geographic Information System (ArcGIS) experience
Python/AI/Machine Learning experience

May work remotely but will prefer local/regional candidates for occasional onsite needs.
Accountabilities:
Independently create SQL queries, SAS and/or R programs, and use other program languages as required, using advanced techniques, to generate core research informatics deliverables, methodologies, and systems.
Serve as an informatics project lead on large research projects and actively promote a work environment that fosters self-directed teams. Take initiative to fill gaps in leadership.
Perform maintenance and quality assurance testing of common data models used in multi-site studies.
Develop expertise in HealthPartners administrative and clinical data to understand source system data changes and apply corresponding coding changes to common data models.
Proactively identify and address data quality issues when they arise and serve on data quality teams.
Respond to data investigations and queries and present findings.
Participate in multi-site data content workgroups.
Work collaboratively with other programmer analysts to share code and manage project work.
Self-manage project tasks through effective and independent work.
Ability to read, understand, and analyze research publications and proposals.
