Job Description:
This position is for an experienced senior level reliability engineer who is eager to join a DevOps/SRE Engineering team for the Walt Disney Company.
The Senior Reliability Engineer must be prepared to work in an extremely collaborative and high energy environment. Leading project/planning efforts, architectural design, attending meetings w/ various teams. Implementing, Tuning, Automating systems and applications Systems Administration and Application Support – Level 2 & 3 Maintenance and Support
Primary responsibilities:
- Drive a DevOps culture among peers and developers
- Design, build, and support of products platforms
- Consult, design, build, and support development pipelines, automate infrastructure and operations, create telemetry for monitoring, engineer high reliability and reinforce best- practices to secure company data
- Perform systems administration and bring knowledge on systems, network, operational excellence and application stability, security, performance, and capacity management, as well as documentation
- You will be expected to stay up to date with emerging technologies
- Must have strong and effective communication skills working with management and other senior engineers.
- Have a passion for new and emerging technology and a constant drive of curiosity. This position works closely with various business Engineering and Production teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide stellar customer support.
- Actively engage with Development and QA teams as well as Product/Business teamsz
- The role requires someone who is creative, proactive, constructive, and highly motivated.
Basic Qualification:
- 5+ yrs relevant experience, preferably in enterprise level Cloud design
- Advanced experience with maintaining web, caching and queuing technologies in large high traffic environments.
- Strong, demonstrated skills in the following at a minimum: AWS Chef, F5, Docker, Terraform, Couchbase, Apache/Nginx/Tomcat, ElasticSearch, Rabbit MQ, ngular.js/Node.js/Spring/Java/Ruby/Python
- Strong systems administration skills with Terraform, Chef, Nimbus, F5, Akamai, Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, Django, Memcache, Redis, ElasticSearch and Rabbit MQ on Linux platforms, and must have extensive experience with web technologies, source control management
- Provision and support web and mobile ecommerce applications for a large-scale enterprise environment.
- Maintain web, caching and queuing technologies in a complex large high traffic environments.
- Relevant experience include expertise inx.
- Required knowledge and understanding of technical architecture, application systems design and integration in a large heterogeneous enterprise environment with hands on experience in REST, SOA, Java/J2EE, XML, Websphere/Weblogic/Apache TomCat Application Server, iRules
- Design experience in an enterprise environment.
- Experience in a system engineer/devops role.
- Experience with architecting highly scalable and highly available systems
- Expert engineering and operations experience is a hard requirement as well as a light development background in one or more languages – Ruby and Bash Shell.
- Well versed in writing automation using Chef, Puppet or another SCM tool.
- Strong and effective communication skills working with management and other senior engineers.
- Experience with Git or similar distributed version control systems is desirable as well as familiarity with Continuous Integration/Deployment techniques.
- Must be self-driven, leading project/planning efforts, architectural design, attending meetings w/ various teams.
- Leadership skills to guide the efforts of a small team of SRE Engineers to help prioritize workload, discuss technical challenges and coming up with solutions, participate in project Sprint planning, ability to manage any number of projects from start to finish.
- Excellent communication and relationship skills, especially the ability to articulate advanced technical topics to both technical and non-technical staff; ability to articulate business issues/concerns with staff, peers, superiors, and outside parties.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Demonstrates expertise in research, often going outside of their area of individual experience.
- Deep technical experience in consumer and employee facing enterprise systems.
- Exposure to infrastructure and platform capabilities - container, middleware, messaging, routing components
- Passion for learning new things but tempering it with adding value to the company.
- Demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to contribute to, and balance delivery against, multiple projects/demands simultaneously
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Info Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
