Job Description
The Heavy Equipment operator Operates heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, motorized road graders, front -end loaders, different types of bulldozers with winch or ripper attachments, rollers, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors, with pan or scrapper attachments, backhoes, excavators, stake bed trucks, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, water distributors, rough terrain forklifts, sweepers, bob cats, and large trenchers. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
Primary Duties:
Operate heavy equipment to lift, load, haul dump, spread, grub, excavate and level, topsoil, gravel, clay, dolomite, sand, lime stone, and other types of materials, equipment and supplies
Read and interpret grade slope stakes and simple sketches and plans
Rig loads for lifting
Use hand and arm signals to direct other operators and tie down equipment and cargo loads on stake bed trucks and flatbed trailers
Operate equipment for sweeping runways, taxiways, roads, parking areas, etc.
Use portable radios to communicate with supervisors, service call desk, and airfield management
Perform operator maintenance and checks on equipment such as cleaning, waxing, armor-all, vacuuming, greasing, checking fluid levels, and adding as required, checking tire air pressure, checking all lights, windshield wipers, braking system, mirrors, windows, damage to vehicle, and make operator adjustments, and repairs. Turn vehicles into vehicle maintenance for scheduled maintenance, repairs, and safety discrepancies
Maintain any relevant trade certificates
Willing to work overtime when needed
Emergency after hours response
Snow removal
Timely completion and accuracy of all work
Adherence to contract requirements, safety and health regulations, and company policies. Timely reporting of all accidents, injuries, and hazardous situations
All other relevant duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Skills:
High school education or G.E.D equivalent
Must be able to communicate clearly (oral and written) in the English language
Valid Alaska Drivers License
Valid CDL Class A License
General knowledge of all maintenance and construction trades
Minimum of three (3) years previous experience operating Heavy Equipment sufficient to provide competency in this skill area
Minimum of one (1) year road grading experience- controlling height and angle of grader blades to spread and/or level earth or other materials such as snow
Minimum of one (1) year Excavator and Back-hoe experience working in and around utilities for maintenance and repair. For example, steam lines, fuel lines, water mains, sewer mains and culverts/storm water drainages
Ability to obtain Rigger Level 1 Certification within six (6) months of hire
Ability to obtain Crane Certificate NCCCO Telescopic Boom Swing Cab (TLL) certified within six (6) months of hire
Preferred
Certified Rigger Level 1 and up
Valid CDL with Haz-mat and Tanker endorsement
Experience operating equipment for snow removal
Fork lift Certification
Manlift Certification
Technical or trade school completion

Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to extreme temperatures, noise, inclement weather conditions, and other conditions determined by the nature of the job. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard, and soft carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces at variable heights.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Additional Qualifying Factors
As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a preemployment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Having reliable transportation to/from work is a necessity and must be used in order to obtain access to military installations.
Must be able to drive a company vehicle and be insured
Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance necessary
