These positions will be assigned to facilities throughout the Southern Sector of the Department of Correction to include
Norfolk, Bridgewater, Roslindale, Plymouth, and Walpole
Duties:
Supervises incarcerated individuals and civilian employees in the repair/installation and/or alters steam plumbing systems by cleaning sewer drains; operating power tools, welding equipment, sewer cleaning machine hand tools, and plumbing equipment; laying out, cutting and fitting material for welding; packing joints, valves, and pumps; cutting and threading pipes; caulking and packing lead joints, valves and pumps; replacing seals in water closets; cleaning filters; unplugging sinks, toilets, and drains; and insulating heat tracing wires and/or piping to ensure that equipment is in proper working order and to meet agency needs. Inspect buildings to determine the need for repairs. Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, instructions, or layouts to understand construction work to be done. Knowledge of the types and uses of materials used in plumbing such as steel, malleable, cast, and galvanized iron; clay; glass, etc. Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment used in plumbing such as blowtorches, soldering equipment, gauges, etc. Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations governing plumbing. Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
Special Consideration will be given to applicants that have a Pipefitters or Steamfitters License or can show a proven background in these areas.
Comments:
This is a Civil Service position. Candidate must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for this title and score must be reached in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609.
