• Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical components of machinery and equipment.
• Coordinate and perform inspections and tests, and troubleshoots electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits and systems using test instruments. Identifies defects and ensures compliance with codes.
• Isolate defects in wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements and replaces faulty switches, circuit breakers, fuses, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems.
• Develop plans and specifications of the layout of electrical wiring to ensure compliance with specifications and electrical codes.
• Mount motors, VFD drives, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits.
• Diagnose and repair complex electrical circuits feeding lighting, building, and mechanical equipment
• Diagnose and repair problems with magnetic motor starters and remote start-stop stations; operates and maintains high and low-voltage switches; and installs rigid, thin wall, and flexible conduit.
• Wire circuits and cleans and tightens low voltage switch gears.
• Work with medium voltage switchgear on building main electrical feeds.
• Work with microprocessor controlled lighting systems including programming and troubleshooting hardware/software problems
• Perform preventive maintenance and renovation of electrical service and historical/non historical electrical lighting fixtures including cleaning, re-lamping and changing ballasts.
• Work with event holders on the Capitol Grounds to provide electrical services. Works with legislators' offices and Governor's staff. Maintain confidentiality of work related information.
• May assign, train, coordinate, and lead staff. May coordinate and supervise the work of contractors.
• Satisfactorily, promptly completes monthly safety and other required trainings.
• Responds to after hour's calls needing immediate attention and to emergency situations in state buildings managed by the SPB. May work varying schedules including nights and weekends based on business needs.
• Works the on-call rotation, overtime, weekend, holiday, and evening work as required with little or no notice.
• Must be available by phone to answer questions during after hour emergencies at all times.
• Provides assistance and training for less experienced staff and actively contributes to all team efforts.
• May operate a State vehicle or run Facilities business errands using personal vehicle. Complies with all rules of the road while conducting state business.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of using a computer to perform routine administrative tasks including work orders and order parts using purchasing system.
• Knowledge and ability to remain abreast and complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations, standards and emergency procedures including applicable OSHA, Agency, local, state, and federal security and safety rules, regulations, and established industry safety and security techniques and standards. Plans work with safety and security front of mind. While working continuously assesses safety conditions to ensure individual and workplace safety and safety of visitors and staff. Promotes visitor safety and building security. Assists with building evacuation if necessary.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance, which is an essential job duty for all SPB positions
• Ability to apply sound judgment and maintain a professional, respectful, and service-oriented focus when interacting with other employees, visitors and the public.
• Ability to walk throughout the Capitol, the Capitol Mall Complex and specifically, SPB-related buildings and grounds.
• Ability to perform manually repetitive tasks; as well as climb, pull, lift up to 60 pounds, push, recline and reach and work in high elevations as needed.
• Ability to safely stoop, bend, stretch, climb, crouch, lift, kneel; and stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Ability to use and manipulate equipment that may require fine motor skills coordination and/or eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to work in conditions with some exposure to temperature extremes, damp, wet, heat, cold, moisture, humidity and/or inclement weather.
• Ability to visually inspect and examine buildings, mentally envision and verbally (or in writing) report details in need of repair and restoration.
• Ability to work varying schedules and on-call periods based on business needs, including some nights and/or weekends.
• Ability to drive legally in the State of Texas, and be insured by the State Preservation Board while driving Agency vehicles.
• Skill in demonstrating effective interpersonal, verbal and written presentation skills in communicating with others.
• Skill in reading schematics, and accurately recognize color coded conductors.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and to work with others in a professional and courteous manner. Remains professional and calm in all interactions with internal and external customers and represents the agency in a professional manner.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

• Five (5)  years' experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and a current electrical journeyman's license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in satisfactory customer service, handling service calls.
• Experience in working with a team, must be a proven team player with a service company approach to building maintenance.
• Must possess the physical, visual and mental ability to safely navigate work areas.
• Basic computer experience required in a Windows environment to perform various administrative tasks.
• Must be available to work some weekends, holidays, after regularly scheduled hours and/or on-call as scheduled or required.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

• The ideal candidate will have a current master electrician license.
• Supervisory experience, advanced computer skills.
• Schedule, coordinate and conduct multiple concurrent projects.
