Come join our exceptional Department of Neurobiology, and help lead the advancement of cutting-edge basic science research into explorations of the brain and central nervous system. In this Staff Research Assistant (SRA) 2 role you’ll:
- Conduct image processing and analysis of light microscopic imaging data.
- Reconstruct neurons and their connectivity through semi-automatic and manual segmentation methods, utilizing both proprietary internal software and commercial imaging software packages.
- Act as a go-to in connectomics imaging for collaborators and advise the PI on the latest trends and developments in the field.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging commercial software and technological innovations for integration into current and prospective projects and experiments.
- Perform imaging of research specimens through fluorescence microscopy, which includes cryosectioning, immunostaining, mounting, and data collection.
- Leverage expertise to collaborate with the PI and lab manager in designing experiments focused on brain tissue, transforming these into detailed imaging data.
- Provide specialized knowledge at the intersection of neuroimaging research, bridging wet lab and computational lab functions.
Required:
- Previous experience in connectomics.
- Familiarity with biochemical techniques and skill to perform all necessary biochemistry experiments.
- Strong familiarity with electron microscopy techniques and expertise in the use of the electron microscope.
- Understanding of the theory of image formation and tomographic reconstruction.
- Working knowledge of the computational tools required for 3D reconstruction of tomographic series, such as the weighted back projection and the watershed algorithms.
- Detailed understanding of segmentation methods and ability to perform 3D renderings with a variety of techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to draft and present research.
