Job Description
The APE Teacher will provide direct and consultative adaptive physical education instruction to students with disabilities, as specified in their Section 504 plans, individual educational programs (IEP).

In addition, the APE Teacher will evaluate and assess motor competency, physical fitness, play recreation, leisure, and sports skills.

The APE Teacher will collaborate with the educational teams to develop, support and implement appropriate physical education programs that meet the unique needs of each student.

This is a 184-day school year position.

As part of our team, you provide direct instruction in the Collaborative setting, either in group or 1:1, varying educational environments which may or may not be ideal for either teaching or learning. In a manner consistent with the students IEP, 504 Plan, behavioral intervention plan, and other documents that direct the appropriate teaching style for students. Develops appropriate measurable IEP, objectives, an accommodations as a member of the IEP or 504 Team.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree or higher in physical education, health, or a related field from an accredited institution
A valid Massachusetts educator license in grades PreK-8 and 5-12 with an endorsement in Physical Education for Students with Disabilities.
Experience in the development and implementation of programs to support students with disabilities
Experience in high level and complex problem solving; building leadership capacity; managing and contributing to large scale organizational change.
Must be trained or willing to be trained in escalation and physical restraint techniques utilized by LPVEC

Job Requirements
Minimum requirements:

Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with students with disabilities

Knowledge of current education legislations/regulations including the Team evaluation process, IDEA, 603 CMR 28.00, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitaion Act of 1973

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all educational stakeholders

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the proven ability to effectively communicate with students and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Proven ability to relate to and work with a variety of constituencies including but not limited to administrators, teachers, other school staff members, parents and guardians, students, visitors and community and social service agencies. Inform parents, guardians, caregivers of students' progress and achievements as necessary.

Be able to read, analyze and interpret professional periodical's, journals, technical procedures and government regulations

Must maintain record keeping systems and prepare reports, assist in identifying, developing, and implement appropriate use of resources to ensure the safety of the students

At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
Bachelor degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency or work visa required
