Bureau/Division Overview
The Labor Relations Unit is responsible for advising executive and senior management on all labor and employment matters as well as representing the agency in all administrative forums including the Department of Labor Relations, Civil Service Commission, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and binding arbitration. The Unit represents the agency in collective bargaining negotiations with employee unions and works to ensure proper administration of applicable collective bargaining agreements. The Unit reviews employment-related policies, negotiates settlement agreements and provides training to agency personnel on a variety of subjects.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will provide assistance with resolving issues presented to Labor Relations. This will include document review, assistance in preparing for administrative hearings, participating in grievance proceedings, and other related tasks in support of Labor Relations.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform legal research through Lexis to identify and consolidate recent cases on current issues.
- Perform document review of exhibits and other discovery requests
- Assist in the preparation of exhibits for grievances, motions, and administrative hearings.
- Work with Labor in organizing internal document structure and updating tracking sheets.
- Assist in the review of documents for personal identifying information and other confidential information that must be redacted before disclosure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in or experience working in the public sector on employment or labor issues.
- The ability to prioritize, adapt and respond to a wide range of legal inquiries and assignments.
An external candidate recommended for a position with the Department of Revenue will be subject to a background check that includes checks for: state and federal tax compliance; child support compliance; education verification; Massachusetts CORI checks; criminal background checks in state(s) of current and previous residence/employment; validation of eligibility to work in the United States; and national fingerprint-based criminal background checks.
