Job Description | The Professional Nursing Tutor at Southeastern Community College provides tutoring services to nursing prep and pre-licensure nursing students enrolled in the Practical Nursing Diploma and Associate Degree Nursing programs. The Professional Nursing Tutor is a key to successful student accomplishment and provides academic support to students by providing course content clarity, helping them understand difficult concepts, and learning best practices in study and testing skills. The Professional Nursing Tutor is part of the Health Professions Division and reports to the Dean of Health Professions. His/her attitude, personality, knowledge, skills, and motivation contribute to the creation of an effective learning environment. Familiarity with the comprehensive community college philosophy is highly desired. This position is half-time (1044 hours per year) with an annual starting salary of $25K,. Pro-rated benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, 15 days vacation, paid spring and holiday breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA-CREF retirement plan. The Professional Nursing Tutor must have the ability and mobility to regularly visit other areas throughout the college district and state. Must be able to work on a basis of “available as work demands” in addition to a fixed schedule, which may include evenings and weekends. In addition, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district. The Professional Nursing Tutor will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees. |
Essential Duties Summary | Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide academic tutoring services for nursing prep and PN and/or ADN level nursing students in a variety of nursing areas; maintain currency in all areas of the nursing curriculum; collaborate with the nursing faculty related to student assessment and understanding of student learning needs. Assist students with learning in a variety of content areas including nursing pre-requisite courses, pathophysiology and disease processes, pharmacology, fundamental nursing skills, and comprehension of more complex nursing concepts. Day, evening and/or weekend hours may be required to accommodate the schedule of students.
