About the Job



The MPAC Technical Director is a temporary staff position (up to 20 hours per week) that coordinates external rentals for the Marshall Performing Arts Center (MPAC) and provides stage management, lighting, and sound support for events in MPAC on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus. Position begins immediately and would be eligible to work up to 67 days in 2024.

Job Duties
Oversee and be responsible for MPAC rentals for groups and organizations other than UMD Theatre
Negotiate contracts with external rentals and ensure compliance with university policies
Create an optimal learning environment for students; lead and motivate students and work study staff
Coordinate all schedules, budgets, documentation, and student personnel for events.
Collaborate with colleagues (particularly the Weber Music Hall Technical Director and the MPAC Box Office Manager) to ensure a positive environment for groups using MPAC
Maintain necessary inventory for necessary expendables and supplies
Ensure compliance with university policies to maintain a safe environment for student workers and guests

Qualifications



Required Qualifications
BA/BS in a relevant field OR a combination of education and work experience that totals four years
Demonstrated experience with stage management, lighting, sound, and/or event management
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage and supervise student workers to complete projects on time
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in a relevant field
Strong supervisory, leadership, communication, budgeting, scheduling and time management skills
Ability to work with a diverse student body, and with faculty and student designers and directors.
