Copeland Senior/Lead Design Engineer in Sidney, Ohio

Copeland is currently seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior/Lead Design Engineer to join our Commercial/Residential Air Conditioning Group in Sidney, OH. As a Senior/Lead Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing New Product Design (NPD) projects, leading project teams, mentoring team members, developing design concepts, creating 3D models and 2D drawings, as well as performing analysis to qualify designs. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of next-generation design technology, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and play a key role in building a world-leading design team. We are looking for a candidate with exceptional communication and collaboration skills, strong technical and analytical abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and as a team leader.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Manage and lead NPD projects, including clearly understanding market requirements, defining project scopes, forming project teams, managing project schedules, and ensuring delivery of industry-leading products.

  • Lead NPD teams to successfully complete assigned design projects.

  • Inspire teams to develop design concepts to meet competitive product design specifications.

  • Oversee the entire NPD design process in adherence to Copeland's design policies and standards, including the development of 3D models, creation of 2D drawings, material selection, and proposal of effective manufacturing and assembly procedures for competitive products.

  • Conduct or supervise analysis, simulation, and testing using advanced technologies such as Ansys, NX Simcenter, GT Suites, and rapid prototyping methods to validate designs.

  • Coordinate design activities and maintain efficient communication with all relevant stakeholders, including suppliers, Project Engineering, Procurement, Advanced Manufacturing, Scroll Machining, Reliability, Quality, and plant teams.

  • Support the development of next-generation design technologies.

  • Initiate, lead, and support Kaizen and other activities for continuous improvement.

  • Lead and support company worldwide design standardizations.

  • Lead design efforts in global collaboration with peer engineering facilities.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field

  • At least 5 years of experience in design engineering

  • Proficiency in CAD software (NX, Solidworks, Creo or others)

  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently and as a team leader

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

  • Master’s (or higher) degree in mechanical engineering or a related field

  • 8 years of experience in design engineering

  • Knowledge and experience within HVAC Industry

  • Knowledge of industry regulations and standards

This role has the flexibility of a remote work option up to two days a week and a core hour schedule. You can choose to flex your start and stop times given you are working during the core hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm.
