Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Program in Media Arts and Sciences-Camera Culture, to join a highly collaborative team of faculty and researchers focusing on privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) in broad areas, including data analysis, machine learning, and novel sensing systems.  Responsibilities include performing independent research in areas including computational privacy, machine learning, cryptography, and federated and split learning; publishing, presenting, and disseminating research to the privacy, security, machine learning, and distributed learning communities; collaborating with professors outside MIT on their research; working with private/industry/government research sponsors to apply for research grants; helping identify projects; mentoring graduate students; supplementing a team of researchers to push research forward; and other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, or closely related field; experience with machine learning, privacy, distributed machine learning, computer vision, and inverse problems; experience with statistics, cryptography, optimization techniques, different mathematical transforms, and signal processing tools; experience with one or more of the following--Python, C/C++, and/or CUDA; excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills; proactive approach to problem-solving and time management; and ability to incubate and envision new, innovative research projects and successfully manage their implementation with graduate students. Seek a self-motivated/self-directed individual with excellent research skills who can work independently and as part of a broad multidisciplinary team.  PREFERRED: experience applying machine learning techniques to health data, financial data, etc.; experience with programming and building large-scale distributed systems; interest in the Camera Culture group’s current research activities; and industry experience.  Job #20416
