About the Job



The University of Minnesota's Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) is looking for a DevOps Developer to join our team. The DevOps Developer will work collaboratively with CMRR research and operations staff to build and maintain software systems and services that integrate with CMRR's scientific and clinical research computing environment.

Responsibilities
Deployment and support (45%)
* Manage and maintain existing software systems
* Transition current research websites over to Drupal Lite web environment
* Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with software systems to create a more functional, reliable, and secure environment for research support activities
* Prepare effective systems disaster recovery procedures
* Effectively communicate complex technical issues to cross-functional audiences
* Identify requirements and devise solutions in close collaboration with CMRR research and operations staff
* Apply university security policies and standards when performing all operational duties

Software Development (45%)
* Create, develop, test, document, and maintain software solutions in a research computing environment, using current best practices and modern tooling (Linux, Git, Ansible, etc.)
* Rapidly iterate prototype services and systems while maintaining attention to quality, testability, documentation, and future maintainability
Database administration (5%)
* Design database solutions, backups and access control in a MySQL/MariaDB, RedCap, PHP web application environment

Additional Duties (5%)
* Participate in the University of Minnesota IT community through relevant communities of practice
* Pursue professional growth through training, workshops, and independent study
* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications



All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications
* BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and two years of work experience, or master's degree
* Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience using these abilities in a team environment
* Programming experience on a Linux platform, including proficiency in at least one modern scripting language (e.g. Python, Ruby, NodeJS)
* Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications
* Technology experience in an academic or research environment
* Experience implementing research workflow or analysis pipeline software
* Experience working in teams on multiple complex projects
* Experience with database programming and web development
* Experience with additional programming languages including: PHP, Python, JS, SQL
* Experience integrating backend systems with web frameworks such as Drupal or Django
* Experience with container technologies such as k8s, Docker
* Experience with configuration management technology such as Ansible
* Experience with modern development tooling such as Git
