Overview

Job Summary:

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs maintenance/modifications and repairs on military equipment as prescribed in the equipment Technical Manuals (TM’s).

  • Must become familiar with, but not limited to the following types of equipment, sub-systems, support equipment and related systems, such as Generators, Trailers, Material Handling Equipment and a wide assortment of wheeled vehicles up to the 7 ½ ton weight limit.

  • Must be able to use appropriate Technical Manuals (TM’s) in Diagnosing systems malfunctions and in dismantle/reassemble of equipment.

  • Works involves most of the following: diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts, such as suspension parts, bearings, exhaust systems, cooling systems, engine components, transmissions, geared hubs, fuel systems, lights and ignition systems, alternators, water pumps, radiators and other unserviceable parts. Have a working knowledge of the operations of lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools. Repair and replace components, engines, transmission, and sub – assemblies.

  • Assists team members in solving maintenance problems by analysis and troubleshooting. Maintains appropriate government required paperwork and the files (Job Packets) necessary for the maintenance and repair of the equipment. Directs workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, verbal and written fluency in English

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background & and drug screening.

  • Must possess a working knowledge of the appropriate tools necessary to perform maintenance tasks as well as have knowledge of standardized maintenance regulations – specifically DA Pam 750-8, Functional User’s Manual for The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS).

  • Employee is required to maintain a valid GA state-issued Driver’s license and applicable Government/Army license.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Common Access Card within fist 90 days of employment.

  • Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling loads up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.

  • Must possess own equipment/tools to perform the job.
