Animal Shelter Attendant (1680030) $18.73 per hour

Culture:
» The Animal Shelter Attendant plays a vital role in the daily operations and care of animals at the animal shelter. Work collaboratively with a team of animal care professionals to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all animals in the facility. Employees in this position perform a variety of tasks involving animal monitoring and care, animal vaccinations, custodial and feeding, and work within a framework of standard policies and procedures under general supervision, independently performing the full range of duties.

Daily Workflow:
» Performs daily cleaning of kennels, cages, and public areas, following proper disease control protocol to ensure a clean environment. Spot cleans in the animal and public areas throughout the day.
» Administers feedings, vaccinations, and medications according to shelter protocols.
» Monitors animal population on a daily basis to ensure health status, proper nutrition and behavior.
» Assists with the movement of the animals throughout the shelter.
» As needed, works with medical staff to perform exams, in-house medical testing, treatments, and minor surgical procedures as allowed by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Practice Act; enters medical information into shelter's management computer system.
» Adheres to regulatory requirements, County and departmental policies and procedures, required trainings, as well as safe work practices.
» Requests and stocks all kennel and cleaning supplies. Cleans, folds, and stocks the kennel laundry throughout the facility.
» Exposure to adverse weather, including extreme temperatures, rain, snow, sleet, and hail.
» Exposure to dangerous or unpleasant conditions and substances, including noise, dust, chemicals, and bio-hazards. May include exposure to disruptive people.

We're Seeking:
» High school diploma or equivalent AND a minimum of one year experience (paid or unpaid) working with animals AND one year of responsible employment that includes working directly with others and multitasking.
» Familiarity with and ability to identify common veterinary medical concerns.
» General knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures as well as cleaning chemicals and tools.
» Basic math and computer skills.
» Physically able to lift up to 75lbs.
» Ability to work in all weather conditions and be able to handle dust, strong odors, etc.
» Must have a valid Oregon drivers license
» Must be able to pass a drug test, background check & DMV records check

Schedule:
» Full-Time, 7am-3:30pm. Schedule may include weekends, holidays and overtime.
