MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree required in related field.
• Experience in development, fundraising, or related fields such as sales or marketing.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Understanding of inter-collegiate athletics culture and good sportsmanship.
• Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• High level of initiative and resourcefulness being results-oriented.
• Ability to work independently and collegially.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in development and fundraising in a higher education institution or nonprofit organization.
• Proven experience developing long term and strategic fundraising approaches.

Working Environment:

• Must be able to work extended hours during the week and occasionally weekends.
• Some travel required.

JOB SUMMARY: The Special Gift Officer for Athletics Giving will focus on securing multi-year pledges and major gifts through personal cultivation and solicitation in support of the Gustavus G Club, 20+ varsity athletic teams and club sports, team endowments, and the Lund Center athletics and wellness facility.

The Special Gift Officer's responsibilities will focus on developing major donor relationships and leadership volunteers to secure significant gifts in support of Gustavus Athletics, while partnering with the Gustavus Fund team to implement affinity-based athletics solicitations, phonathons, giving days, golf tournaments, and more.

Employment Type: Full-time (1.0 FTE), Benefits-Eligible, Exempt (Salaried)

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identify and conduct face-to-face solicitations of philanthropic support for Gustavus Athletics and Gustavus Adolphus College as a whole, focusing on multi-year pledges and planned gifts.
• Maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects and meet mutually agreed upon annual goals for cultivation and solicitation.
• Maintain quality contact records and efficient tracking of results, while managing oneself through dashboard goals.
• Spend at least 60% of one's time in the field with prospective donors, half of which may be time spent traveling outside of the Twin Cities region; participate in the College's mutual accountability prospect review process.
• Coordinate through a donor-by-donor basis with individual Gift Planners to facilitate maximum athletic giving and cultivation efforts.
• Work with Gift Planning and Gustavus Fund staff to identify and move donors into the major gift pipeline.
• Build and maintain exceptional relationships, recognizing the needs and sensitivity of our constituents.
• Write cogent and convincing correspondence and reports as requested.
• Participate in developing a corporate sponsorship program.
• Facilitate growth of affinity groups as needed.
• Focus on priorities, meet deadlines, and achieve established fundraising goals.
• Support the day-to-day operations of the overall Advancement effort.
• Promote and exercise teamwork and collaboration when working with donors, volunteer groups and coworkers.
• Work with colleagues to develop and implement successful marketing, education, recognition, sustainer and stewardship programs; participate in growing the membership of the College's recognition societies.
• Report to the Associate Vice President for Advancement; work closely and collaboratively with the Vice President for Advancement, Director of the Gustavus Fund, the Assistant Director of the Gustavus Fund, and the Director of Research and Prospect Management. Coordinate with the Director of Athletics, team coaches, Athletics Leadership Council, and more.
