Job Title: Lead Custodian - Temporary Assignment (NYU)

Job Summary: EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for a Lead Custodian at New York University in NW, Washington DC, for a Temporary Assignment lasting approximately 4 months and potentially converting to permanent . The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 5pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Duty Schedule: M-F 8:30am-5:00pm

  • Assists the Chief Engineer in maintaining custodial staff schedule and ordering departmental supplies.

  • Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition.

  • Schedules, directs work, and trains EMCOR custodial staff, as needed.

  • Completes all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains daily upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.

  • Performs routine maintenance activities.

  • Performs heavy cleaning duties.

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors

  • Gathers and empties trash.

  • Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.

  • Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment

  • Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.

  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

  • Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.

  • Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs

  • Manages inventory of cleaning supplies

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in housekeeping on Commercial-Industrial building equipment.

  • Experience and knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents in English.

  • Must be able to work a schedule of Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly walk for extended periods; required to sit; use hands to finger, handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; talks or hear and test or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
