Job Description:
The APP Moonlighter is primarily responsible for providing evening and weekend coverage for the Neurosurgery Service line at Regions Hospital. Regions Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and requires 24/7 coverage for Neurosurgery. This position will be responsible for maintaining coverage for existing patients and newly transported or admitted patients needing medical attention from Neurosurgery. This position will be responsible for rounding on the patients in the hospital. This position will work in conjunction with the first call attending to coordinate the care of patients within the hospital. This position will be responsible for first call on nights and weekends. Additionally, when needed, this position will assist in the operating room and on the nursing units. The APP Moonlighter will assist the surgeon with positioning the patient and room set up, opening and closing the incision in the cranium, cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. This position will be responsible for integrating the use of advanced technology into the intra-operative procedures as directed by the neurosurgeons. This position will be responsible for consults from the emergency department, ICU, and other floors within the hospital. The APP Moonlighter must be available by pager at all times when scheduled for first call and will need access to the electronic medical record from home as well as have access to imaging and email.
On the inpatient nursing unit and the outpatient clinics, this position will coordinate the patients care and assist the surgeon/provider in directing the post-operative nursing care for these patients. The major functions in this environment consist of patient assessment, writing medication and treatment orders and performing, or directing specific tasks. Among these tasks are pulling tubes/lines and dictating discharge summaries. Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:

Required Qualifications:
Completion of a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist program.
1-2 years' experience in the neurosurgery or spine (OR) environment which includes First Assisting.
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Current DEA certification (verified during credentialing process)
AND
Physician Assistant:
Licensed as a PA with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice
NCCPA certification
Approved by Minnesota Board of Medical Practice for prescription writing privileges (verified during credentialing process)
OR
Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist:
Currently licensed as an APRN by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
Currently licensed as a RN by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
Certified by a national nurse certification organization acceptable to Minnesota Board of Nursing (i.e. CNS or NP)
