Under the direction of the Director of Quality and Performance Improvement, the RN Quality and Safety Specialist will lead within the patient safety program, ensuring ongoing participation in and compliance with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives. This position will work closely with leadership, other quality colleagues, and frontline colleagues to support the transformation and translation of evidence-based standards, best practice standards, and regulatory standards. This position will also support the collection, compilation, and presentation of data.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides expert knowledge, leadership, facilitation, mentoring, and service to quality improvement teams utilizing standardized improvement science methodology and tools. Provides data collection and report development support for quality improvement initiatives / projects. 

  • Provides expert knowledge, leadership, planning, facilitation, and mentoring to patient safety initiatives using safety science and principles of safety culture. 

  • Contributes to metric development and dashboard creation and maintenance to reflect the improvement and safety work at LHMC. Analyzes data and prepares concise, accurate, and meaningful quality reports in accordance with quality improvement / management principles. 

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to follow the institutional process for root-cause-analysis and peer review processes; including but not limited to participating in review events, analysis of outcomes data, developmentand collaboration on action plans / mitigation plans. 

  • Participates in data collection, data review, and analysis of event reporting. 

  • Supports the interpretation and evaluation of CMS, DPH, DMH, FDA, and TJC guidelines, standards, and/or regulations or other standards related to safe and effective patient care. 

  • Supports policy and procedure related activities. 

  • Participates within and/or facilitatesassigned hospital-based committees. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Licensure: Current Massachusetts RN Licensure

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)

  • Experience: Experience as an RN in an acute care setting

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Sound facilitation skills 

  • Ability to understand process 

  • Ability to work within a team and independently 

  • MS Word, PPT, and Excel proficiency

  • Superior interpersonal communication skills

  • Superior writing skills

  • Comfortable presenting to small and large groups  

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities daily

  • Ability to independently set priorities (self-starter)

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Education: Master's degree in nursing or other Healthcare related field

  • Certification: Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or other project management / performance improvement principles. 

  • Knowledge and experience with CMS and Joint Commission Standards. 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams.
