Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Director in the strategic planning, organizing and daily supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, physicians and other employees.
  • Assists the Director in the preparation and management of the annual operating and capital equipment budgets.
  • Works collaboratively with all practitioners to run the schedule according to the defined standards, policies and procedures.
  • Adjusts, plans and schedules staff and equipment in order to meet patient care needs in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Responsible for assuring appropriate staffing to meet case types and assigns staff to cases according to competence and skill.
  • Contributes to the creation and implementation of policies and procedures to support standards of cardiovascular patient care.
  • Holds staff accountable for adhering to policies and procedures. Provides guidance and counseling to personnel in the department for non-compliance with hospital policies and protocols.
  • 24/7 operational accountability.
  • Serves as clinical contact for PCI Program; responsible for data integrity and documentation.
  • Supports and maintains unit compliance with regulatory and professional standards such as JCAHO, DPH, OSHA and FDA and unit specific competencies.
  • Serves as a professional role model and mentor to staff.
  • Utilizes the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth’s policies/procedures and nursing practice standards to direct staff in the implementation of the nursing process for the purpose of improving patient outcomes.
  • Participates in the interviewing and disciplinary process with personnel.
  • Actively participates in the annual performance evaluation process and completes evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Supports quality improvement process in the Cardiovascular Services, utilizing NCDR (ACC), Mass-DAC and AHA registry information.
  • Utilizes the LEAN Methodology to improve efficiency and decrease waste in the department.
  • Notifies, initiates investigation and submits reports on unusual occurrences to Director.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with computer – Meditech, Microsoft Office and other hospital clinical documentation systems, e.g., Cath Lab Clinical and PACS Systems.
  • Develops and directs the orientation and clinical education programs for the Cath Lab Program and clinical nursing in the Diagnostic Imaging Department using BID-Plymouth’s policies and procedures and nursing practice standards. Works with the Professional Practice Department to develop educational programs to support the Cardiac Catheterization Program in the Cath Lab/ED and Critical Care Departments.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Five (5) years of clinical experience in the interventional cardiac cath lab with charge/supervisory experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • B.S. in Nursing required.
  • M.S. in Nursing preferred.

Registration/Certification:

  • Current R.N. license in Massachusetts
  • Certification in CCRN specialty (preferred)
  • ACLS
