The Department of Molecular & Medicine and Pharmacology is looking for a Staff Research Associate I to perform duties to assist the researchers in the laboratory. In this role you will perform a variety of routine lab assays and molecular biology and biochemical experiments, including but not exclusive to western blot, PCR, cloning, IP, mammalian cell culture and flow cytometry. You will also operate ancillary equipment used with small animal research, maintain lab supply inventory and cleanliness. Finally, you will be responsible for handling mouse work involving various injection techniques, intravenous tail injections, blood collections, tumor inoculation, collecting tissue samples and preparing mice for molecular and histological characterization.
Target hourly rate: $25.75-$30.71
Required:
- Basic understanding of biology and animal physiology;
- Basic understanding of molecular imaging research;
- Ability to create and maintain records accurately;
- Organized, accurate, and detail-oriented schedules and records, performed in a timely manner;
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of faculties, staff, post docs, graduate and undergraduate student about techniques and protocols; Ability to multi-task to meet deadlines;
- Experience in molecular and biochemical standard methods and cell culture;
- Experience in flow cytometry;
- Ability to learn pre-clinical imaging systems;
- Skilled at writing reports and working with spreadsheets, databases, and email;
- Ability to follow directions and to both work independently and to work well with a team when needed; Ability to keep laboratory space clean, safe, and organized, ability to order and maintain imaging and ancillary equipment; Ability to lift heavy equipment; Ability to use or learn imaging software for data analysis;
- Ability to adapt to changing requirements of the lab, including flexible work hours and flexible assignments as needed;
- Ability to ensure compliance with all University, State, and Federal laboratory safety, biosafety, and radiation safety protocols, rules, and guidelines;
Preferred:
- Experience in working with small animals such as mice and rats, including handling, injections, general physiology and maintenance, and dissections.
- BS in Biology or related field
