Job Description

 
Full-time position with benefits. Provisional appointment pending Civil Service examination. SUPERVISING NURSE DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is important work involving responsibility for maintaining high standards of professional nursing services in the operation of a department, with special emphasis on patient care and treatment and on the supervision, instruction, and coordination of nursing personnel. The work is performed under direct supervision, with some latitude allowed for carrying out specific duties, making assignments to subordinates and the supervision of the nursing staff. Incumbent may be required to work additional hours when necessary to meet patient and staffing requirements. Does related work as required and assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education, AND EITHER: A. Possession of a Bachelors Degree or higher in Nursing, and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in professional nursing activities of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Possession of a nursing license issued by the State of New York, to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
