Dairy Systems AssociateThe target location for this role is Land O'Lakes Corporate Headquarters in Arden Hills, MN, however this position can be remote (virtual) and located anywhere in the USAThis position supports the development and implementation of Truterra's Dairy Sustainability Platform (Platform) through a focus on meeting the business needs of cooperative and food company customers to conduct annual analysis of Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) assessments, and to develop and maintain corporate road maps to achieve GHG emission reduction goals.Truterra's Dairy Platform is the first in a series of best-in-class dairy environmental stewardship assessment/improvement guidance tools being developed to support Truterra customers in the food and agriculture value chain. Future work will include expansion of the Truterra's Scope 3 Process and On-farm Tool to include modules for other livestock segments (e.g. Beef) as well as modules for water quality and biodiversity.Truterra's initial dairy business goals are to capture market share opportunities by providing industry-leading services to meet customer needs. Our dairy and livestock team has decades of subject matter experience, and we are looking for the right individual to add their expertise to contribute to our goal of ensuring dairy and livestock products are included on sustainable food plates. Our work is focused on developing and providing industry-leading products and services across value chains that results in reducing livestock's impact on the environment and seeks to improve farmer profitability. Truterra is a farmer first company.Responsibilities:Develop subsequent releases of the Scope 3 Process core module and Enteric Print using the existing minimum viable product (MVP) as a basis. Incorporate innovative methods and new information available from data sets and peer-reviewed articles. Add new features that result in modeling additional dairy cattle management practices and decisions that impact GHG emissions and emission reduction opportunities. Ensure core module connects with the Feed, Manure, and Energy prints. Test developed model to ensure accuracy and correctness. Use Scope 3 Process iteratively to determine most important predictor variables required based on importance and availability of data; refine model as needed.Identify best sources of existing LCA GHG footprint values for purchased dairy feed ingredients, both commodities (e.g., ground corn) and co-products/by-products (e.g., almond hulls, citrus pulp, beet pulp), typically included in various dairy diets across the US. Determine possible adjustments that may need to be made to utilize sources. When LCA values are not available, identify the best methods to quantify GHG emissions for purchased feed ingredients. Determine appropriate method to apportion purchased feed GHG burdens attributable to dairy using established guidelines or standards.Develop and maintain quantification methodology bibliographies for the Platform.
