Job Summary:
The Shop Planner & Fabrication Coordinator is a pivotal force in the coordination and planning of shop fabrications and materials management. This includes overseeing in-shop operations, acting as the primary liaison among Project Managers (PMs), Crew Leaders, and Vendors. This position will manage the tracking of productivity metrics for fabrication personnel and be responsible for accurate timekeeping. This position reports to the VP of Operations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Fabrication Operations: Directly manage shipping, receiving, and organization of materials by job or location. Expedite materials and fabrications when necessary.
Materials Management: Orders materials for crew leaders and project managers with specific job knowledge specifications on what parts to use. Coordinate the return of unused materials and equipment efficiently, including maintaining accurate packing slips.
Project Coordination: Participate in project/job release meetings to ensure seamless coordination between shop operations and project management. Reviews project drawings and corrects drawings for accuracy.
Inventory Management: Conduct weekly audits of material racks for returns, re-use, and recycling opportunities.
Cost Tracking: Monitor and evaluate fabrication costs.
Customer Service: Provide outstanding service to both internal and external customers.
Workflow Management: Maintain and document shop workflow and schedules to optimize resource utilization and meet project deadlines.
Approval & Compliance: Obtain necessary approvals from Project Managers for special or atypical fabrication jobs.
Timekeeping: Responsible for daily timekeeping of all shop personnel, including summary reports.
Works with Isometrics; reading, estimating, and editing to Notch shop standards.
Functional Requirements:
Strong interpersonal skills including effective communication, organization, and supervision.
In-depth knowledge of fabrication processes, shipping, and receiving, as well as production tracking.
Expertise in the trade, including pipe, fittings, and isometric drawings.
Proficiency in project management, including documentation and cost-efficiency.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma required.
Experience in fabrication coordination is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work skillfully and easily with hands.
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds.
Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Ability to operate a keyboard, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
