About the Job



Position Overview:

The Learning Abroad Center (LAC) in the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance is the University of Minnesota's comprehensive resource for study and travel experiences worldwide. The Learning Abroad Center offers a full range of custom programming, advising, and support services to students.

Instructor-led learning abroad programming has grown in number of participants and number of programs in recent years. The Learning Abroad Center at the University of Minnesota supports 50-70 instructor led programs per year across the Seminar Series and Global Campus Partner models. The Instructor Led Program Coordinator position develops and supports a suite of instructor led programs annually. Working closely with LAC staff and faculty members campus-wide the Instructor Led Program Coordinator organizes program budgets, contracts, marketing materials, and travel arrangements as well as consults on academics, program design, and program reviews. The Program Manager role also has a significant student service component; advising, supporting, and guiding student applicants through the application process and reviewing/approving materials from students.
Estimated Salary: $52,000-$54,000
Responsibilities:

Education Abroad Program Development and Administration (60%)

-Plan and develop instructor led education abroad programs:

-Develop and implement program budgets and other financial arrangements

-Develop and implement program contracts and agreements

-Consult on program design, curriculum, and policies and procedures

-Provide oversight for LAC program leaders and on-site staff

-Create and manage group flight travel arrangements
. -Oversight of student enrollment; ensure all applications, confirmations, and program information is accurate
-Troubleshoot program-related issues, determine appropriate solutions, and work through to resolution

-Development of program emergency and crisis management plans in consultation with program leader and onsite partner

-Assist Assistant Director of Instructor-led Programs on curriculum development and course approval process with academic units

-Serve as program specific contact for travel arrangements with travel agency, as appropriate

-Assist with administration of program proposal and review process

-Serve as a back-up point of contact for Instructor-led Program Director for academic policy and messaging change to instructors and University stakeholders

-Provide support and back-up to Assistant Director of Instructor-led Programs in understanding and sharing resources related to University policy that impact instructor-led programs

Assist Assistant Director of Instructor-led Programs on curriculum development and course approval process with academic units


Student Services (20%)

-Provide support and assistance with student services; meet and advise students through the education abroad selection and enrollment process

-Utilize student development theory to guide diverse groups of students on general education abroad opportunities

-Manage advising resources and serve as program adviser for portfolio of programs

-Manage application, review, and acceptance process (including review of health forms, accommodation requests, and disciplinary reviews)

-Manage student records

-Collaborate with collegiate liaisons

-Manage overseas student emergencies for portfolio of programs, including communication dissemination with LAC staff, students, onsite staff, and parents

Program specific promotion and recruitment (10%)

-Collaborate with communications team to plan, develop, and implement program-related promotion and recruitment efforts that appeal to students from diverse communities and cultures

-Develop marketing materials for Instructor Led program portfolio

- Develop and update web and other digital assets for program marketing

-Develop and update print marketing materials

-Participate in promotional events as appropriate


Professional Development and Service (5%)

-Participate in other projects/tasks individually or as part of a team effort

-Serve on university committees related to learning abroad and participate in LAC and Global Programs and Strategy Alliance staff meetings and activities, as appropriate or assigned

-Participate in LAC meetings and activities, as appropriate or assigned (e.g., LAC study abroad fair)

-Promote, support, and participate in learning abroad and international education efforts with university units, appropriate professional associations, and organizations

-Hire, train, and supervise student staff


Implement curriculum integration within University departments/units and within program offerings (5%)
. -Consult with departments on developing new learning abroad initiatives and programs

-Serve as curriculum integration liaison to U of M colleges, academic departments, and advising offices

-Work with academic departments on process of assess, match, and motivate

-Help individual departments determine how to increase access and learning abroad opportunities

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree

-Experience in at least one of the following: living/studying/working/interning/volunteering/host family stay in another cultural context and the ability to articulate the importance of that experience

-3 years experience in higher education or relevant non-profit organization

-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple demands, and quickly pivot from one demand to the next

-Demonstrated commitment and experience in the field of international education

-Demonstrated education abroad program management, recruitment and implementation experience

-Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and access

-Demonstrated intercultural, oral, and written communication skills

-Ability to work well with diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and administrators

-Strong leadership and management skills, including budget management

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master's or professional degree in related field

-Knowledge of theory and practice in areas such as student development, cultural adjustment, identity development, experiential learning, and intercultural communication

-Experience administering short term learning abroad programs

-Experience developing and implementing program budgets and contracts

-Experience with creation of marketing materials, content creation and editorial experience
