Job Description:
Responsibilities include:
Build, maintain and organize a color library digitally and physically.
Maintain customer technical service issues on file for follow-up via Field Service Reports (FSRs) & SFDC logged entries
Assist by preparing samples, panels, etc. for presentations.
Operate all material handling, color matching, tinting, mixing and lab testing equipment as required and in a safe manner
Assist in color verification and field color formulations
Implements procedures that will help the customer in avoiding issues or allow them to improve their process
Knowledge of pigments, their capabilities and other color relevant raw materials and their interaction
Basic Understanding of color science principles and their application to create color match formulas and contribute to color development work
Above standard level in creating and matching color formulas
Optimizes color formulas for quality
Accountable for contributing color solutions at industry professional level to projects of above standard complexity
Knows and operates best suitable instrument / software choice for intended purpose.
Communicates results by writing technical reports of low complexity
Builds relationships and establishes credibility as onsite SME and resource
Functions well with minimal direct level supervision
Communicates internally with info exchange, presentations within technical teams
Establishes and executes a timeline by required due date
Knows and operates best suitable instrument / software choice for intended purpose
Flexible schedule when needed to accommodate on-site production hours
Be available to interact with and support customers, such as taking customer calls when there is an issue or participating in annual customer account plans
Perform customer line audits and line surveys
Familiarize self with all products & procedures, including product preparation & application
Participate in Corporate initiatives and projects aimed at improving the Technical Services organization as needed
Maintains a high degree of professionalism and customer service orientation when interacting with customers

FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
High School or GED equivalent
Preferred:
BS / BA in Color Science or HS Degree plus 12 years of relevant industry experience as defined as Paint, Coatings, Surface preparations in a technical role, 8 years of those in Color.
Associate or Trade Degree
Bachelor's Degree
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
* General color lab equipment operations (scale, stirrer, mixer, spray guns, fume hoods)
* Knowledge of mathematical methods to calculate / re-balance color formulas
* Lab scale operation of mixing equipment
* Experience in a manufacturing or industrial painting environment
* Minimum of 3 years' experience blending paint and matching colors including metallics and micas / flake type colors
* At least 3 years' experience matching special effect colors
* Color testing equipment of medium complexity (spectrometer)
* Ability to work both day or night shifts
* Understands the mechanics around blending colors and the systems/techniques involved to support it
* Good understanding of paint equipment and application techniques
* Experience with automotive or industrial / OEM coatings
* Understanding how to read colors via measurements / Delta E / use of color spectrophotometer / understanding of color space
Preferred:
* Prior experience in one or more of the following areas: Blender, Application, Facility or Brand PSR operations, Collision repair, Refinish Technician, Paint/Color System Operator
* Experience with SW technologies including Genesis and DIP
* Understanding of SW ecosystem
* Familiar with Commercial Truck or Automotive industry
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

*Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
* Excellent organization and planning skills
* Experience working with MS Office
* Experience with color matching software
* Ability to troubleshooting paint issues
* Able to work independently

Preferred:
* Understanding of Aurora
* Understanding of Formula express 2.0
* Liquid application experience, powder is a plus
