About the Job



The Department of Biology at the University of Minnesota Duluth is seeking a 75% full-time greenhouse coordinator. This position has the responsibility of directing the operation, maintenance, and record keeping function of experimental plots and greenhouses within the Department of Biology.
The bargaining unit consideration period is from April 23, 2024 until April 30, 2024.
This is for a 75% time, benefits eligible, 12 month appointment. The schedule is 30 hours a week, flexible, with some weekends and/or holidays. The pay rate range for this position starts at $24.85/hr and depends on qualifications.

Responsibilities/Duties (95%)
This position will work under the direction of a project leader in planning and preparation of UMD greenhouses for research plots, plant propagation and care. These examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this position.
Directs and monitors the use and maintenance of equipment used in planting, growing, harvesting and storage of crops, or maintenance of greenhouses, fertilizer spreaders, planters, sprayers, growth chamber equipment and temperature controls.
Supervises soil preparation, layout, seeding culture, harvest, and storage. 3. Propagates standard varieties of plant materials, maintains plant cuttings, and cares for and germinates seeds.
Records detailed information concerning experimental plots, growth rates, disease and pests.
Applies principles of Integrated Pest Management through scouting, monitoring, and treatment of greenhouse pests and disease.
Maintains inventory, records, reports, and orders supplies.
Directs the maintenance of work areas and buildings.
Coordinates and directs personnel working greenhouses.
Other related duties (5%)
Directs the production of plant stocks for teaching and special events.
Participates in campus events and committees.
Assists faculty with laboratory classroom experiments in the greenhouse.
Conducts safe and informative tours of the greenhouse to the public.
Supports outreach events in the greenhouses.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications
High school graduation and five years of related education and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in horticultural, biology, environmental science or other closely related fields.
