About the Job
Reporting Structure: This is a 75% staff position within Experimental Surgical Services (ESS), which is part of the Department of Surgery, within the Medical School at the University of Minnesota. Department: Department of Surgery General: Experimental Surgical Services is a preclinical research lab that performs non-clinical research for the purpose of the research and development of medical devices, physician training, new surgical techniques, and other academic projects with a surgical component. Basic Function: The Inventory Manager is responsible for ensuring that the ESS lab has all required supplies in appropriate quantities to function smoothly. Tasks include entry of financial data, organizing and managing physical inventory and inventory related data in compliance with University, State and Federal policies.
About the Job: This position ensures that the lab has all required supplies in appropriate quantities to function smoothly. Applicant needs to be personally motivated to succeed in a high-paced work environment. Position is eligible for overtime and the hourly wage will be $21.34-32.14 Specific duties include:
Research Lab Inventory Management: * Oversee and manage lab inventory - 70% o Create and maintain up to date lists of inventory needs o Maintain organized lists of items ordered that is visible to other staff o Create requisitions in EFS system o Create UMarket orders o Receive orders upon arrival o Process invoices for payment o Monitor requisitions for timely receipt and trouble shoot order problems * Ordering support - 20% o Research information needed for special order items/new products o Manage vendor information in lab company contacts spreadsheet (Excel) and in EFS vendor forms * Set up new accounts with lab vendors in EFS system o Retrieve prescriptions from pharmacy and maintain research lab drug log o Trouble shoot shipping related issues * Laboratory office support - 10% o Answer lab phone and direct visitors o Package and ship study related materials (lab images, tissues, research data) following material handling guidelines
Qualifications
Requirements: * High school diploma plus two years college coursework in scientific field and a minimum of two years of work experience in maintenance, repair and construction, machine shop, storge, and/or audio visual aids. * Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Access * Must be willing to work a flexible work week; core lab hours are 7am to 3:30pm * Must be able to lift 50lbs by oneself, must be able to sit and stand for long periods
Preferred: * Experience with data organization and management * Trained in University EFS system * EFS trained in procurement functions * Experience working as a team member in a lab setting * Basic knowledge of biology or medical terminology is helpful but not required. * Bachelor's degree
