Under general supervision, performs a variety of repair and maintenance functions on City parking meters; collects and counts coins from City parking meters and collection boxes; electronically audit and generate various reports for management; and performs other duties relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Collect coins from parking meters and lock boxes according to established weekly schedules; follow an assigned route; audit all parking meters once a month.

Perform a variety of repair and maintenance functions on parking meters; disassemble meters and remove foreign objects and defective coins; clean and lubricate mechanisms, repair or replace broken parts and test for proper functioning.

Check voltage and circuit boards of electronic meters; replace dead batteries; re-program electronic meters; modify existing parking meter equipment to comply with changes in regulations and requirements; change time limits as assigned.

Perform minor adjustments to meters on location; remove meters requiring major repairs and transport them to the maintenance shop; tighten meter posts.

Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and records of meters serviced and repaired; prepare reports as requested; update maps of meter locations using a computer when required.

Separate coins by route; record number of meters checked and amount of money collected.

Complete various daily, weekly and monthly reports of money collected from meters; identify and report all meters that are damaged, missing or defective.

Issue Notice of Infraction to vehicles in violation of applicable parking codes as necessary.

Assist the public by providing directions and responding to questions and inquiries.

Pick up trash and debris in and around parking lots in order to keep them clean.

Perform related duties as required.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience:
One year of experience in the field of meter repair or other related mechanical and electronic repair; cash handling or collecting experience desirable.

License or Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
