Position Description


The Anoka County Community Corrections is Working to Build a Safer Community. We are committed to leading through implementing innovative, research based, and results driven services. The Community Corrections department has immediate openings for Probation Officer Assistants who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include working with offenders in three juvenile correctional facilities providing individual and group support to residents through facilitating programs, maintaining safety and security, documenting behavior and completing well-being checks.
The Anoka County Corrections department is hiring for full-time, non-exempt, positions. This posting will also be used to fill temporary positions which are non-benefit eligible. Interviews will be scheduled for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Pay & Benefits
Salary: $51,792 ($25.97 per hour).
2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 30. $54,017.60 to $72,904.00 ($25.97 to $35.05 per hour).
24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays for full-time positions.

Work Location
This position will work at the Anoka County secure Juvenile Detention Center, located at 7565 - 4th Ave, Lino Lakes, MN 55014.
Expected work schedule is shift work including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Positions are primarily scheduled to work second shift (3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.) or third shift (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.).
Full-time Probation Officer Assistants at these facilities work six consecutive days including weekends and holidays followed by three consecutive days off.
All institution staff is scheduled on a rotating schedule and may vary based on business needs and supervisory discretion.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Probation Officer Assistant.
DOC licensing standards including mandated resident well-being and high-risk checks.
Facilitate intakes for mental health, medical, cultural, educational, gender, etc.
Complete audits on the following: medication delivery, JAIMS intakes, youth property, and building supplies.
Perform case review and take appropriate action according to policy to include ordering Urinalysis (UA's).
Focus on pro-social skill development, effective use of rewards and sanctions, use of a variety of individual/group counseling approaches, and facilitation of diverse programming.
Balance minimally restrictive actions while allowing consequences for client actions.
Consult with supervisor regarding low needs, high-risk clients and high needs, low-risk clients.
Complete medication verification, maintain care, and custody of all residents in placement.
Communicate with all stakeholders and complete required paperwork.
Maintain accurate documentation of case activity utilizing department and offender data systems and computer hardware.
Respond to emergency situations and calls for assistance in the worksite and intervene with appropriate level of force.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

High school diploma or equivalent education.

Must be at least 21 years of age by the closing date of this posting.

Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Must successfully pass criminal and driver's license background checks
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
Bachelor's degree in corrections, criminal justice, criminology, counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, or closely related field.
Job-related experience in a correctional or probation setting.
Knowledge of criminal justice system, processes, and chemical health policies and laws.
Knowledge of state laws related to correctional facilities.
Skill in motivational interviewing techniques and investigation strategies.
Skill in effective behavior modification and de-escalation strategies.
Experience with evidence-based correctional practices.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Assignments required several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.
Physical activity may include handling/carrying equipment, reaching, climbing, or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Periodic high levels of exertion in the form of self-defense, pursuit, or restraint of an individual is possible for some assignments
Law enforcement equipment may include but is not limited to radios, pagers, handcuffs, first aid equipment, restraints, chemical agents, Tasers, and protective equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
Union Representation
This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between Anoka County and the AFSCME union.
