Recreational Sports Outdoor Program Climbing Summer Specialist
Purpose/Objective of Position: Plan, implement and execute the RSOP Climbing Program. Support the mission and activities of UMD RSOP through whole-unit, campus, and community involvement. To meet the demands and expectations of this position, work hours will vary greatly from day to day, week to week and season to season. Tasks Within Each Major Job Function: 20% Program Development: Coordinate climbing program offerings and activity schedules Facilitate on-campus climbing facility usage and off-campus climbing program agreements Utilize recreation management software to administer the climbing program Contribute to the RSOP team by assisting and working with individuals from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds including but not limited to differing race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. 10% Student Supervision: Supervise the climbing program staff to include the scheduling and work oversight of climbing program offerings 60% Instruction, Training & Assessment: Lead/instruct rock climbing programs and offerings 10% Risk Management: Monitor program safety and manage risk as it pertains to the climbing program
Qualifications
Required Qualification per Job Class: BA/BS degree plus at least two years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years Preferred Qualification per Job Class: American Red Cross CPR /First Aid or another wilderness medical certification Demonstrated experience facilitating indoor and outdoor climbing programming Leadership and supervisory skills to train and supervise student employees as demonstrated through past supervision of staff. Demonstrated experience with the proper use of safety equipment and risk management practices associated with indoor and outdoor climbing.
