Job Description

The X-Ray Technologist is to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by producing diagnostic radiographs of various organs and structures of the human body. Operates with minimal supervision uses independent judgment to determine quality of radiographs and compliance with established protocols.



SHIFTS: 7:30am - 6pm, every other weekend

9am - 7:30pm, ever other weekend

8am - 4:30pm, every other weekend



General:



Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.



Clinical:



Performs diagnostic procedures in accordance with established protocols, which includes, but is not limited to, reviewing for appropriateness and completeness of patient histories and requested services.



Explains procedures to patients and ensures that patient understands the procedures they are undergoing.



Works in stressful environments such as surgery suites and ED.



Exposed to ionizing radiation on a regular basis.



Positions patients and provides for their protection from ionizing radiation.



Selects and operates complex radiographic equipment; follows standard safety protocols for personnel using radiation producing equipment.



Regulates time and intensity of exposure and other technical factors on individual patients.



Obtains Radiographs using the lowest possible exposure factors.



Reviews images for diagnostic acceptability.



Prepares and administers, orally and by intravenous injection, contrast media under physician direction.



Reviews Medication Reconciliation form on patients receiving contrast.



Practices aseptic and sterile technique to prevent the spread of disease.



Administers or assists in administering CPR or other emergency procedures as needed.



Maintains appropriate records and supplies.



Instructs Radiologic Technology students in methods and procedures.



Participates in continuing education activities related to the field of Radiologic Technology and its subspecialties.



Demonstrates and maintains skills in providing care for patients of specific age groups, such as geriatric and neonatal, through in-service and continuing education.



Performs evaluative equipment tests and participates in quality control program.

Required Skills & Experience

Surgery Experience



Certification/License: Registration by the (ARRT) American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and a current state license is required.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Level 1 trauma experience
