The Community Corrections Supervisor is accountable to and receives authority from the Director and Superintendent. The supervisor exercises initiative and independence in the performance of duties. The supervisor has primary responsibility for the coordination and provision of all services/programs offered to system customers in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Community Corrections Department.
This Supervisor position is located in the Juvenile Service Center secure facility in Hastings, MN. Scheduled hours include a combination of day and evening shifts, and traditional office hours.

Duties & Responsibilities These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.
General supervision duties: 1. Manage unit operations; develop service goals and objectives, determine developmental direction, implementation, and coordination of programs/services within the unit, determine coordinated approach for service delivery across unit, department, division lines and/or community resources. 2. Manage assigned purchased services, contracts, and grants. 3. Supervise and manage personnel; organize, assign, and delegate unit staff duties and task areas, determine training needs for staff, evaluate staff performance, etc. 4. Supervise work with residents using research based correctional practices to include but not limited to motivational interviewing, case management, cognitive behavioral therapy and treatment groups. . 5. Lead policy and program planning; recommend policy and procedures, determine outcome measures, provide quality assurance, determine gaps in service and propose new initiatives to address needs. 6. Manage budgets. Ensure expenditures remain within budget limits and determine budget needs for unit. 7. Represent department at external meetings, committees, and functions. 8. Prepare reports, evaluations, grant applications, and requests for proposals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Duties 1-6 are essential functions
Juvenile Services Center (Secured Facility) duties: 1. Ensure safety of juveniles, staff, contractors and others in the secured facility and perimeter, including the control center. 2. Lead facility development of/compliance with departmental, facility and state policies and procedures, including safety, security, health/welfare, supplies inventory, information systems/data entry, and training. 3. Collaborate with colleagues to maintain resident case management across programs. 4. Collaborate with colleagues to maintain smooth operations of secured facility. 5. Oversee quality, completeness of resident cases and facility records. 6. Oversee and ensure facility compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Duties 1-6 are essential functions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment · Knowledge of MN juvenile corrections/law enforcement statutes. · Knowledge of criminal behavior and/or juvenile delinquency. · Knowledge of the eight Evidence Based Principles for Effective Intervention and the ability to align those principles with the core business practices of an organization.." · Knowledge of the Minnesota Criminal Justice Process sufficient to make sound decisions regarding correctional intervention. · Knowledge of legislative, local and state mandates governing supervision of residents, dissemination of information and case management. · Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care. · Ability to exercise sound decisions within the framework of Departmental and State guidelines. · Ability to maintain good working relationships with residents, departmental personnel, community groups and other system players. · Ability to work both independently and with team members to accomplish tasks, planning functions and problems resolution. · Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict. · Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a County office building. Some travel is required. Lifting requirement of up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Exposure to hazardous materials such as chemicals, blood, and other body fluids may occur on the job. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, printer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines, camera, pager, video equipment, and Proxima. Pursuant to Dakota County Policy and Procedures Manual Section 3240 (13), this position is designated as Safety Sensitive.
