Job Title: Weekend Machinist / Mechanic
Location: Mayfield, KY
Shift: Weekend (Friday-Sunday, 6am - 6pm) Work 36 hours and paid for 40 hours
Compensation: $18-$25 per hour based on experience, with a $1 shift differential

Job Overview:
Join our dynamic team as a Weekend Machinist / Mechanic specializing in locomotive systems! This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your skills in machining and mechanical repair will be essential. Enjoy the benefit of working 36 hours while being compensated for 40, all while contributing to the production of high-quality locomotive parts and ensuring the reliability of historic diesel/electric locomotives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate a variety of machines including horizontal mills, engine lathes, and manual grinders to produce locomotive parts.
• Conduct inspections, repairs, and maintenance on diesel/electric locomotives, ensuring compliance with FRA regulations and AAR standards.
• Utilize precision instruments (e.g., micrometers) to ensure accuracy in machining and maintenance tasks.
• Perform emergency repairs on locomotives, including replacing components such as wheels, traction motors, and air compressors.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment while adhering to safety protocols and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Collaborate with team members to achieve production goals and troubleshoot machinery malfunctions effectively.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in machining or mechanical repair, with a preference for candidates with experience in locomotive, diesel, or automotive mechanics.
• Technical degree or relevant certifications in Mechanical Engineering or related fields is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Physical capability to lift 50lbs and work in various environments, including tight spaces and outdoor settings.
Preferred Skills:
• Certification in Advanced Welding Techniques and Non-Destructive Testing.
• Familiarity with locomotive diesel engine components and advanced mechanical systems.
• Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
