Program Manager, Fitness & Wellness Operations








Job Overview

The Program Manager of Fitness and Wellness Operations will have primary oversight for fitness floor operations including fitness floor staff, fitness leads, and fitness equipment upkeep and repair across all campus recreation facilities. In addition, this position will provide oversight of fitness programs and events to enhance the user's experience. Additional areas of focus will be fitness promotions for new members, fitness floor orientations and incentive programs. The program manager may need to train clients, teach group fitness classes, or assist with fitness and departmental events as needed.

A vital component of this position is a demonstrated ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking, as well as a strong commitment to student development and engagement, collaboration, and customer service.Additionally, this position has significant staff, administrative and risk management responsibilities

This position includes the ability for a hybrid work schedule with up to a 20% work from home option.

Essential Functions


Provide oversight for Fitness and Wellness operations across multiple facilities which include fitness floor staff, fitness lead staff, and repair and replacement of fitness equipment.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 50-60 fitness floor leads and fitness floor coordinators.
Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and new hire onboarding for fitness staff.
Coordinate and manage fitness floor orientations, new member promotions in partnership with Member Services, and assist with the facilitation of the employee incentive program.
Develop and assist with the coordination, organization and promotion of fitness special events and programs that meet the changing needs of the UC community.
Assist with the planning and purchasing of all capital and minor fitness equipment.
Utilize Rec Automation member management software including reporting, etc.
Evaluate member satisfaction and make recommendations that are responsive to participant interests and needs.
Support, create, and deliver marketing ideas and materials including regular website updates and social media content.
Contribute to monthly reports and gather program data on monthly and semester basis.
Assist with various department responsibilities and serve on department committees such as risk management, marketing, student development, special events, etc.
Assist with the collaborations and partnerships with university colleges, departments, or organizations.
Assist with departmental projects as they arise which may include coordinating the purchases or repairs of miscellaneous items (i.e., technology, TVs).
Instruct American Red Cross CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Training to student staff as needed (Instructor training is provided).
Work collaboratively with the Program Manager, Fitness and Wellness Programs.
This position requires occasional evening and/or weekend work.
Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time

Required Education


Bachelor's Degree.
Seven (7) years of relevantwork experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience


Three (3) years of relevant experience
One (1) year of supervision
Previous experience hiring, training, developing and evaluating staff

Additional Qualifications Considered


Certification from an accredited organization such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or NASM in related program areas or ability to attain certification within six (6) months of employment.
Knowledge and experience with safety and risk management as it pertains to a fitness setting.
Knowledge of various related systems, including CSI/Rec Automation, SubItUp, Connect 2 Concepts (C2C), IMLeagues, Canva, Microsoft Office.
American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid Instructor certification. Must be certified within 6 (six) months of employment.
Proven commitment to student and professional staff development and customer service.
Demonstrated ability to identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent and logical decisions.
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability and balanced lifestyles.
