SCOPE: The Product Design Engineer is an important part of the Cleveland Based-Engineering department and reports to the Engineering Manager.Under the scope of this position the Product Design Engineer is responsible for developing new offerings utilizing the latest configurations and technologies. As part of a cross functional team, the Product Design Engineer will lead product customization processes, utilizing historical data and improving upon design features, based upon customer request. This entails conferring with external customers to define their requirements while working with internal cross-functional department team members to create designs that are cost effective, efficiently manufacturable and which exceed the end user's expectations. Day to day responsibilities would include the review of quotes, ECNs and oversight of the Superior Products line of standard updates, customer comments and design for manufacturing (DFM) issues for efficiency and cost reduction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work cross-functionally with Sales & Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and other team members to guide development efforts to customer specifications.
Perform and/or verify engineering testing/calculations for product performance and safety margins.
Review, sign and implement Engineering design changes (ECN's) to reduce costs, improve manufacturability and tailor existing designs to meet customer requirements.
Review customer's request for quote (RFQ) and specifications to develop preliminary design concepts.
Coordinate and/or perform required drafting and 3-D design software, using Solid works.
Prepare and release new and revised drawings as required.
Direct building of prototypes and subsequent testing to validate.
Coordinate the required drafting or technical activities for assignments.
Ensure design changes are in accordance with approval agency requirements (i.e. - UL, ISO, etc.) and design standards (ASME, CGA, ASTM, etc.)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
Minimum of 5-8 years' experience in the design of mechanical components
Supervisory experience a plus.
Ability to travel up to 10 % or as required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organization/employees.
Strong computer skills - Strong aptitude with Microsoft Office applications; Solidworks (1+ year)
Experience working with cross-functional teams.
Ability to work under pressure while balancing multiple priorities.
Achieve results utilizing key performance metrics and continuous improvement tools.
Problem solving skills utilizing disciplined methods and critical thinking.
3D modeling experience preferably with Solidworks and ability to use 3-D printer.
Practical experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and/or pressurized gas and fluid systems.

Preferred:

Valve design process experience.
Valve industry experience.
Design review and troubleshooting of product non-conformance and returned product experience.
Lean experience.
