SMX is seeking a Principal Full Stack Software Development Engineer to support a new USINDOPACOM J5 office in Hawaii developing an AI/ML enabled plans capability (STORMBREAKER).  As a Principal Full Stack Software Development Engineer, you will be working on an accelerated development project in support of a high priority Department of Defense program. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, integration of existing capabilities, as well as development of new applications.  You would be a great candidate for this position if you are interested in developing intuitive web applications that will gather and present data from multiple sources. You understand the nuances and challenges of combining cloud-agnostic back-end architectures with modern front-end frameworks. You have a passion for working with customers and understanding how to create systems to help them accomplish their goals. The STORMBREAKER program represents a rare opportunity to modernize the current planning process by providing military decision makers with the latest technology and AI driven tools to keep our nation safe. Willing to consider remote work for a highly qualified individual that meet the requirements.

 Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret SCI clearance which requires US citizenship for work on a DoD contract.

Some travel may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Write maintainable code, perform peer code-reviews, write technical design documents, and participate in technical design discussions.
  • Work in a team environment to collaborate and strive for consensus by making data-driven decisions.
  • Advocate for code re-usability across multiple products.
  • Architect and implement full stack web applications.
  • Work in an agile environment to continuously deliver high quality software.
  • Have a high attention to detail, working closely with business and technical stakeholders to drive measurable results

Required Skills & Experience

  • Required clearance: Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret SCI clearance which requires US citizenship for work on a DoD contract
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of full stack web development, using Node, Typescript, React and/or other modern frameworks
  • 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems.
  • 5+ years of experience as a tech lead OR leading an engineering team
  • Experience with cloud providers, such as AWS or Azure
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance
  • Familiarity with building secure software using modern security principles
  • Experience building and operating scalable infrastructure software or distributed systems
  • Knowledge of 2D/3D graphics concepts and libraries, especially SVG graphics and HTML5 canvas
  • Familiarity with GIS and mapping technology, especially Cesium
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and practices
  • Experience creating cloud-agnostic back end services
  • Experience working with Department of Defense
