About the Job



Objective / Overview

The CSE Labs are often the first exposure to CSE-IT that students encounter. We want the computer labs to be as professional, clean, and operational as possible. This is a first level user support position responsible for assisting in identifying and maintaining the needs of the CSE Labs as a service to CSE teaching departments and CSE related camps/reservations including printing, software, and facility needs. Responsibilities also include backend oversight and maintenance from monitoring to troubleshooting equipment to hardware replacing/upgrading.


Responsibilities:

Technical Support (50%)
Field incoming tickets and resolve promptly
Troubleshoot, rectify issues and escalate problems when needed
Maintain CSE-IT equipment (computers, KVM, printers, lab supplies, etc)
Consult with faculty and students on lab instructional hardware and software needs.
Maintain and administer lab computer monitoring systems (Sassafras)
Install and configure operating systems, software, and hardware on various platforms
Coordinate with vendors for support, arrange repairs, and computer orders

Physical Support & Maintenance (35%)
Perform daily lab inspections for assigned locations
Identify needed repairs and cleaning
Work with University Facilities and other vendors

Lab Support Process Management and Improvement (10%)
Assist lab manager in the development and management of Lab Support processes.
Coordinate student lab worker(s)
Assist with maintaining/updating/creating CSE-IT Knowledge base documentation

Collaboration & Professional Development (5%)
Attend and participate in appropriate CSE-IT meetings and events.
Participate in related CSE and University professional groups and/or Communities of Practice to ensure the needs and interests of the College are represented.
Special projects as identified.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:

A BA/BS degree; or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
Previous experience working with computers, IT, AV, and/or related equipment
Knowledge of desktop computing hardware and peripherals, common operating systems and applications.
Skill to problem solve and diagnose technical problems in the field.
Experience working with customers and providing good customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with Linux, Windows, and Mac operating systems.
Experience with ITSM ticketing systems (Team Dynamix, Service Now, etc.)
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to a wide range of users and co-workers.
Successful experience communicating with and serving the technical needs of faculty and students.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a professional, customer service environment.
