Education Requirements and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) preferred.
Prior Experience with aquatic invasive species preferred. Proven experience as a good crew leader preferred.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Individual must provide own transportation to and from job site. Mileage is reimbursed.
Positively identify the target plant/animal species under a variety of conditions.
Attitude and aptitude for working within the field of Natural Resources is required. Must be a team player, manage time, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Proven ability to supervisor other staffin a field setting.
Ability to work with the public, maintain a professional conversation if met with confrontation.
Follow covid safety procedures while working with the public
Ability to be punctual, enthusiastic, dependable, possess positive leadership skills and work ethics is required.
Ability to follow written and verbal communications and follow a strict protocol is required.
Ability to navigate to various public access points.
Ability to use and iPad to conduct boater survey/inspections
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required for this position.

Physical requirements:
Must have the ability to complete arduous work in an outdoor setting: some of which can be challenging
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., utilizing safe lifting techniques is required.
Aspects of this position require standing, sitting, and bending for long periods.
Must wear safe shoes and hi-visibility vest at all times.
Must have the ability to work in inclement weather conditions, heat & cold, and endure insects such as mosquitoes, deer flies, ticks, and occasional encounters with stinging insects.

Job Description:
Division: Resource Management
Reports to: Plant Resources Director and Assistant Program Manager
Worksite: Leech Lake DRM Compound
Work Hours: Sun-Sat, hours may vary

License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN Drivers License, current insurance or be insurable.

Summary: Responsible for inspecting watercrafts entering and existing lakes around the Leech Lake Reservation. Will assist with maintaining CD3 units and doing outreach for special events as scheduled.

Supervisory Duties:
Participation in youth development and community outreach events will occasionally be required. Train additional interns on aquatic invasive species.


Duties/Responsibilities:
Work under the direction of Plants Program Assistant and collaborate with additional watercraft inspection programs in the area.
Complete MNDNR online and in person training for the watercraft inspection program.
Provide boat and equipment decontamination.
Complete work and tasks in a timely manner as directed by the Plants Program Management.
Collect field data for the purpose of progress reports, plus maintain a daily log of activities.
Will be responsible for insuring work areas are neat and orderly to maintain a safe working environment.
Responsible for practicing and insuring workplace safety within the field and office always.
Attend all mandatory online and in person trainings as required.
Always maintain confidentiality and professional ethics.
Must be understanding and sensitive to Native American culture. Must adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
