This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time: Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. Only one position will be filled; the final class and starting salary of this position is dependent on the successful applicant's qualifications.

This position is located at Waters Edge in Roseville. The incumbent will have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite at least once/month but may be required to work onsite more depending on business needs. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This position is responsible for directing the development of MnDOT signing plans for state contracts and maintenance operations, reviewing plans prepared by consultants and local agencies, responding to internal and external requests from the public and managing consultant contracts. This position also issues district traffic control work orders for maintenance of Metro's signing infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer Senior:

To qualify for Engineer Senior, applicants must meet all the following:

  • Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through Comity (Reciprocity). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment).

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate:

To qualify for Engineer 2 Graduate, applicants must meet all the following:

  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.

  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

  • Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.

Education:

  • A master's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university substitutes for one year of post-graduate civil engineering work.

Required for both the Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate levels:

Resume must also demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and application of traffic engineering principals and standards sufficient to review signing plans and ensuring they meet established standards.

  • Knowledge and application of MnDOT construction plan content and organization sufficient to direct the development of signing plans for moderate to major scale projects.

  • Knowledge and application of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD).

  • Ability to review technical information and to arrive at solutions to problems as they arise.

  • A valid Class D Driver's License.

In addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, you will be assessed on the following if interviewed:

  • Human relations skills that demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the public, businesses, elected officials, and other governmental organizations.

  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, sufficient to give direction, facilitate meetings, make public presentations, and answer project specific and policy questions, and to write letters and other documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following:

  • Knowledge of special provisions.

  • Knowledge of roadway construction practices.

  • Knowledge and application of MnDOT Traffic Engineering Manual, MnDOT Standard Signs Manual, and MnDOT Standard Signs and Markings Summary.

  • Knowledge and application of Microstation and SignCAD.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.

  • Ability to effectively manage consultants' contracts.
