This laboratory uses cutting-edge approaches such as mass spectrometry to reveal and mechanistically dissect metabolic underpinnings of adult disease pathogenesis in novel paradigms. The technician will apply a large number of concepts, fundamentals, and techniques, and will hone his/her interactive skills via the project's collaborations. The technician must be able to: 1. Acquire pristine biospecimens from mice, archiving these materials in a meticulous manner. (5%) 2. Correctly prepare biological samples for various molecular biology and mass spectrometry based assays (5%) 3. Perform basic molecular biology colorimetric assays to measure the concentrations of proteins, fat, cholesterol and other metabolites of interest (20%) 4. The technician will need to be able to successfully perform basic molecular biology assays such as Western Blots, or qPCR (20%) 5. The technician must be capable of performing tissue or cell extracts (10%) 6. In mentored environment, technician will assist with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based assays, prepare samples, equipment, acquire data and at least perform preliminary analysis. (20%) 7. Prepare primary tissue cell cultures, reagents, media, plates etc (5%) 8. Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. (5%) 9.
