About the Job
The Minnesota Supercomputing Institute (MSI) at the University of Minnesota seeks to hire a Data Steward who enjoys contributing to research and solving issues of data management and access. As a Data Steward at MSI, you will join MSI's Research Informatics (RI) group and provide support for MSI's researchers and users by managing data and computational tasks. You will work most closely with faculty and sta at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB) and Medical School.
A major responsibility of this position (approximately 50%) will be to support a multi-site consortium research study, entitled the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) study. This project will prospectively examine human brain, cognitive, behavioral, social, and emotional development beginning prenatally through age 10 years. The study will determine the short- and long-term impacts of a variety of potentially harmful as well as protective environmental factors. The overall goal of this study is to understand the neurodevelopmental trajectories of children growing up in diverse environments. You will be a critical part of developing and maintaining multimodal data standards across multiple sites using longitudinal assessments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Enable analytics use cases for execution by the MSI and MIDB Informatics teams; will combine deep knowledge of data assets, business processes, and systems
Contribute to metadata standards for the Institute
Coordinate closely with researchers and data managers to help establish the data denitions, structure, processes, and quality rules
Ensure best practices around data access, sharing, and archiving are shared across the organization and embedded in new development projects
Work with MSI operations sta to implement and rene data governance policies, processes, and controls
Serve as a liaison between the MSI compliance ocer and researchers to ensure that protected data requirements are clearly dened and communicated, audited, and executed
Anticipate and plan for researchers' needs for new data access, sharing, and archiving infrastructure
Work directly with researchers to resolve data access, sharing, and archiving needs
Other duties as assigned
Position Responsibilities
Data Operations (30%)
Manage access policies, documentation, and controls for restricted datasets
Write, test, and document scripts and workows used for managing data movement and access controls
Coordination and Planning (30%)
Coordinate with compliance specialists and informatics sta
Analyze workows; diagram logical operations; recommend process changes
Support and Project Management (30%)
Assist with both routine and complex end user issues escalated from MSI's helpdesk and MIDB researchers
Prioritize, plan, and scope tasks, assignments, and projects with minimal supervision
Manage tickets, tasks, and projects in MSI's relevant tracking and project management systems
Professional Development (10%)
Participate in the University of Minnesota technology, research, and cultural communities through relevant University working groups, committees of practice, and professional organizations
Pursue development through relevant independent studies, training, workshops, and conference
This position has been designated as flexible work prole 1 or 2. Prole 1 is expected to work primarily on-site. Prole 2 is expected to work on-site more than 50% of the time. The oce location will be in Johnston Hall. MSI management retains the right to modify exible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.
Qualifications
Required Qualications
Bachelor's degree with (overlapping or subsequent) two years experience in research, compliance, data management, and/or data analytics; or, a combination of related experience and education to equal six years
Understanding of Linux-based computing environments
Experience handling sensitive data (e.g. PHI and PII)
Experience developing process ows, data standards, and denitions
Preferred Qualications
Graduate degree or 2+ years of experience in research, compliance, data management and/or data analytics
Ability to implement procedures that ensure compliance and utility in a complex environment
Experience with data management, transfer, and/or neuroimaging-specic software (e.g. LORIS, iRODS, Globus, S3)
Experience with databases
Experience with metadata creation and management
Prociency in at least one programming and/or scripting language
Experience working with academic researchers (e.g. working with academic grants, funding agency requirements, papers)
General Skills and Attributes
